Lady Tigers open up MSC play with Monday matinee against Bethel

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – It will be a quick turnaround for the Campbellsville University women's basketball team as they prepare to play their third-straight home game in their Mid-South Conference opener against No. 14 ranked Bethel University at 3 p.m. ET at the Powell Athletic Center.

The Lady Tigers are coming off of their fourth win overall and their third against a team receiving votes in the poll when they earned an 88-63 win over Bryan College last Saturday at home.

In the win against the Lions, senior Sammy Rogers recorded her second-straight 20-point game as she finished with 23 points and a team-high tying seven rebounds while shooting 5-for-7 from three-point range.

As per the latest Campbellsville University Athletics protocol, no outside spectators will be allowed to attend the game.

DEFENSIVE STANDARD
  • With some of the early attention on the NAIA second-ranked offensive averaging over 100 points per game, the Lady Tigers' defense has been able to limit some potent offenses through their early schedule.
  • Currently allowing 59.7 points per game to their opponents, ranking 30th in the NAIA, Campbellsville has limited each of their first four opponents to score less than their season average, including limited Bryan to 63 when they had been averaging 99.6 points per game heading into Saturday's game.
  • Forcing turnovers and grabbing steals has always been a big part of the Lady Tiger defensive scheme under Ginger High Colvin and this season has proven to be more of the same early on as the team is averaging 16.8 steals per game, ranking fourth in the NAIA led by Savannah Gregory's 3.3 steals per game.

SCOUTING BETHEL
  • The Wildcats come into Monday's game with a 5-3 record at 2-1 in MSC play in their first season as a full-time member of the conference with their conference wins coming against Lindsey Wilson and Freed-Hardeman, both teams receiving votes in the poll, and their lone loss in conference coming at home against Pikeville on Dec. 5.
  • Taking a dive into the numbers through eight games, Bethel likes to rely on their defense and rebounding as they limit opponents to 33.5 percent shooting from the field and 61.9 points per game.
  • Individually they have five different players averaging over five rebounds per game, which is more than any Lady Tiger is averaging on the season with senior Mickey Head leading the way at 7.6 rebounds per game while also ranking No. 6 in the NAIA in total blocks with 21 on the year.

LOOKING AHEAD
  • The Lady Tigers will have one more game before they hit the Christmas break when they hit the road for Pikeville, Ky. for a meeting with the Bears on Friday, Dec. 18 at 5:30 p.m. ET.
