Lady Tigers get back to action with New Year’s Eve tilt against Cumberland University

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Returning from the 15-day layoff between games, the Campbellsville University women's basketball team will play host to Cumberland University this Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. ET at the Powell Athletic Center.
 
The No. 2 Lady Tigers will head into their post-Christmas break portion of the schedule at a 6-0 overall record and a 2-0 record in Mid-South Conference play with wins over Bethel and Pikeville most recently.
 
In the 84-74 win over the Bears on Dec. 18, the Lady Tigers had five players in double figures led by 19 from Sammy Rogers as 13 of her 19 points came in the second half and 10 in the fourth quarter.
 
Campbellsville University will continue to not allow any outside spectators into basketball games as they have for the entire season to this point with only teams and staff allowed in the Powell Athletic Center for the game.
 
BROADCAST INFORMATION
  • Matt Payton, the voice of Tiger basketball, will be on the call for the broadcast as he will be joined by CU's second all-time leading scorer and Campbellsville Hall of Famer Benji Kelly.

STAT LEADERS
  • Overall, the Lady Tigers have balanced out their various lines of stat production throughout the deep rotation that CU boasts as different players lead the team in points, rebounding, and assists.
  • A bulk of the scoring load has been on the shoulders of seniors Rogers (19.2 ppg) and Savannah Gregory (17.5 ppg) as those two combine for 39.6 percent of the team's 92.7 points per game.
  • Gregory leads the team in rebounding at 5.2 rebounds per game with Courtney Pritchett second on the team at a 4.3 rebounding average and Rogers right behind at 4.2.
  • Bailey Pedigo has been able to facilitate the offense well, leading the team with a 6.7 assists per game average in the starting point guard role with Pritchett second on the team at 4.5 assists per game working as a primary ball handling role to spell Pedigo and freshman point guard Lauren Lee.
 
SCOUTING CUMBERLAND
  • The Phoenix will be playing in their first road game of the 2020-21 season as they've split the four games they played so far with a 1-2 record in Mid-South Conference games.
  • Cumberland didn't even have a game on the early part of their schedule outside of the state of Tennessee as they postponed games four times that were either road games against Bethel University and home games against Shawnee State and Thomas More.
  • Offensively, the Phoenix have four players averaging double figures in points per game led by freshman guard Lindsey Freeman's 13.8 points per game as Brittany Miller (12.3), Sydnie Ward (12.0), and Ashlyn Pittman (10.0) also average double figures.
  • Cumberland has been able to take advantage of strong play on the defensive end, limiting opponents to 68.8 points per game while also turning their opponents over 19.5 times per game.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
  • It will be a busy stretch of basketball for the Lady Tigers heading into the new year of 2021 as they will play seven games over a 14-day stretch starting with a road game against rival Lindsey Wilson College this Saturday at 1 p.m. ET. They will progress to play five MSC games and a non-conference game through the first half of the month through Jan. 16.
