CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The No. 2 Campbellsville University women's basketball team used a 54-25 first half to carry their way to a comfortable 93-49 win over Cumberland University Thursday afternoon.
The Lady Tigers outscored the Phoenix in every quarter on their way to the 44-point win, but all things were clicking for Campbellsville in the first 20 minutes as they held Cumberland to just 34.3 percent shooting in the half while shooting 51.4 percent themselves.
Starters
Lexy Lake and
Sammy Rogers stood out in the Lady Tiger strong start as Rogers scored 18 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and going 6-for-6 from the free throw line and Lake added 11 points with three made three-point shots.
Both Lake and Rogers looked to get their teammates more involved in the second half as three other players score in double figures for Campbellsville with
Savannah Gregory adding a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds then reserves
Faith Lake and
Sarah Sutton each scoring 11 points off the bench on 4-of-9 shooting from the field.
Campbellsville was able to get minutes for all of their active players in the game as every player for the Lady Tigers contributed to points scored with by scoring themselves or assisting in the game.
The Lady Tigers also held the advantage in key stat categories including major advantages in points off of turnovers (33-12), second chance points (24-5), bench points (48-17), and points in the paint (40-24).
Sydnie Ward (13) and Britany Miller (12) both scored in double figures for the Phoenix but no other player for Cumberland was able to produce more than five points as Ward and Miller made 12 of the 21 shots from the field for the Phoenix.
Campbellsville will move on to face an NAIA ranked opponent on Saturday afternoon as they will head down Highway 55 to Columbia, Ky. for a battle with No. 19 Lindsey Wilson College at 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT.
