Offense lights up Brescia while pitching staff shines in season opening sweep

OWENSBORO, Ky. — A combined 21 hits in two games led Lady Tiger softball to a doubleheader sweep over Brescia University on Monday evening.
 
No. 13 Campbellsville (2-0) earned a 7-0 win in game one and run-ruled the Bearcats in five innings for game two, 15-1. 
 
CU was led at the plate by Lexi Miller with four RBI and going 3-for-6 at the plate with a walk and scored two runs. Ryley Whitney went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Payton Blades was 3-for-9 scoring three runs and driving in two. Lastly, Hannah Judd celebrated her birthday with the first round-tripper of the season for the Lady Tigers and went 3-for-7 overall three RBI and two runs scored. 
 
 In the pitching circle, Campbellsville tossed four different pitchers combining for 11 strikeouts and allowing only five hits. 

Blades (1-0) went three innings and allowed one hit and struck out four batters. Freshman Courtney Patterson saw action in four innings allowing only two hits and struck out three in her Lady Tiger debut. 
 
In game two, it was Aleigha Talsma tossing 3.2 innings and allowing only two hits. Karson Williams also saw action in the final 1.1 innings without allowing a base runner. 
 
With the wins, the Lady Tigers head into the Reinhardt University Classic this weekend with a 2-0 record. CU plays Freed-Hardeman and Reinhardt University on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. The Lady Tigers also play No. 20 USC Beaufort and Martin Methodist on Sunday. All four games will air on the CU Sports Network.
