Lady Tigers fall on walk-off obstruction call in seventh inning to Reinhardt

WALESKA, Ga. — Lady Tiger softball lost in the seventh inning on a walk-off single by Reinhardt University's Emma Adams and the Eagles upset No. 13 Campbellsville, 3-2.

The final inning of the night was a tough one for freshman Courtney Patterson (0-1). She allowed a leadoff single and one-out walk to put runners on first and second to setup the hit by Adams. She delivered the single up the middle and Samantha McKee's throw home was on the money to Ryley Whitney but the umpire, Gavin Smith, called obstruction on Whitney – which gave the run to the Eagles.

On a cold evening at Ken White Field, the Lady Tigers could only muster six hits overall and left seven runners on base. Campbellsville tied the game at one with an RBI single by Mia Aldridge down the right field line to plate McKee.

Tied at one until the sixth, Whitney put CU ahead, 2-1, with a run-scoring double to left-center field. Humphrey scored all the way from first.

Patterson allowed the Eagles to answer in the bottom half of the inning as Alise Hooks delivered her second run scoring double of the night.

Aleigha Talsma started in the circle and was solid, tossing 4.2 innings and allowing only three hits and the one earned run while striking out five. Patterson earned the loss is relief, tossing two innings and striking out one. She did relieve Talsma in the fifth inning and worked out of a jam after coming in cold off the bench.

Campbellsville returns to action on Sunday at 10 a.m. ET to play No. 20 USC Beaufort. CU also plays Martin Methodist at 2 p.m. ET. Both games will air on the CU Sports Network.
