CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Sunday afternoon, the Tigers concluded their four-game sweep over Siena Heights in a 12-1 route and a walk off win.
GAME 1
After outscoring the Saints 24-1 on day one of the weekend series, the Tiger bats came alive once again, hoping to pour on for more of the same.
Starting right where they left off, Campbellsville started right where they left off, putting up four runs in the first inning of play.
The four runs would have been enough for CU, as
Jesse Davis (1-1) dealt on the mound, as his only trouble on the day came as he walked two runners in the second, allowing one to come home and score.
As Davis was dealing, the senior right hander managed to complete five no-hit innings for the Tigers on the way to his first win of the season.
While Davis, limited the Saints offensively, the Tiger lineup continued to add to their weekend run total scoring one in the third, two in the fourth, and five in the fifth, extending their lead to 12-1.
With the Tigers maintaining a comfortable 11 run lead,
Eric Little entered for Campbellsville in the sixth, as he was able to record two K's while allowing three hits to close the ballgame for CU.
For the game,
Skyler Vail and
Cale Thompson used three hit and three RBI games to help CU run away with game one.
Davis' gem was closed as he allowed just four base runners through hit five inning no-hit bid.
In similar fashion to the first two games of the weekend series, the Tigers were able to essentially shutdown the Siena Heights bats, while exploding offensively for the 12-1 victory.
GAME 2
The second game, however, seemed to be a different story as the Saints bats came alive after scoring just two runs through three games.
As
Brady Tedesco (1-0) was set to make his third start on the season, he worked himself into a jam early after walking the first batter he faced before Parker Mabe, came around to score, giving SHU their first lead of the weekend set.
Nonetheless, the Campbellsville lineup did not allow the lead to last long as the
Colton Titus and
Jalen Horton picked up singles before a no doubt homerun from
Tyler Cox put the Tigers back on top, 3-1, before Saints starter, Parker Swartz was able to record an out.
Swartz, however, was able to settle in after allowing the homer, holding the Tigers hitless in the second, third, and fourth.
After Siena Heights added a run in the fourth, they were able to put up their first crooked number of the weekend following a wild throw from
Colton Titus, that allowed a pair of runs to score and extended the inning.
As
Steven Butts stepped onto pitch for CU in the fifth, the Tigers were finally able to get out of the inning, but did so, trailing 6-3. This closed Tedesco's day with 5 Ks through 4.1 innings, giving up three earned runs.
Much like the first, the Tiger deposit did not last long, as a leadoff double from Titus sparked a three-run inning for Campbellsville. Following Titus' double, Horton picked up the RBI and Cox followed with an HBP.
With two-outs,
Tommy Sepulveda stepped into the box to poke a ball through the left side of the infield, scoring Horton and Cox to even the ballgame at 6.
Siena Heights, hungry for their first win of the season, continued to put pressure on the Tigers after Cal Olmstead came around to score in the sixth on a double from Mabe.
Once again, Campbellsville quickly returned the favor as Horton picked up his second RBI of the game to score
Luis Padron.
Holding the Saints scoreless in the top half of the seventh, Campbellsville looked for their first walk-off victory of the 2020 campaign.
Following a flyout from
Skyler Vail, Campbellsville was able to load the bases on a pair of singles from Sepulveda and Thompson and a walk from Padron.
With one out, Siena Heights brought both their infield and outfield to shallow depth, allowing
Jack Bauer to step up a drive a deep flyball over the head of the Olmstead in right field for the 8-7 win.
Butts (1-0) was able to record the win after allowing just one run through 2.2.
Horton led the offense going 3-3 in the ballgame, while scoring twice and picking up a pair of RBIs. Titus and Sepulveda each had two hits as well.
The Tigers escaped the weekend scoring 44 runs to improve to 9-4 on the year.
Campbellsville travel to Pulaski, Tenn. on Tuesday for a tough mid-week double header against Martin Methodist College starting at 2 p.m. ET.
