Tiger wrestling qualifies 10 for NAIA Championship after fourth-place finish at MSC Tourney

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Tiger wrestling finished the Mid-South Conference Championship in fourth-place, had a pair of MSC runner-ups, and qualified 10 individuals for the NAIA Championship.

Dayton Marvel and Mahlic Sallah finished runner-up at 141 and 174 pounds, respectively, to earn Second-Team All-Conference honors. All 10 winners earn first team all-conference honors, with the second-place finishers receiving second-team honors.

Marvel and Sallah are joined by eight others earning automatic bids to the NAIA Championship - Jordan Martinez, Marvin Galette, Michael Diemer, Tristan Sellmer, Chandler Woenker, David Richardson, Zach Linton and Ashton Mutuwa.

Marvel dominated his first two matches with major decisions before winning his semifinal bout, 5-4, over Trent Johnson of Lindsey Wilson. In the finals, he lost to Cumberlands' Bryce Nickel.

Sallah, which came in as the No. 3-seed, won his first three matches to setup a title bout with Nathan Walton of Cumberland University. Sallah earned a pair of pins in the first two rounds and then a 3-2 decision over Southeastern's Coleman Bryant.

Campbellsville finished in fourth place with 131 points along with Life University to be tied. Cumberlands claimed the regular season and tournament titles with 176.5 points to outlast Lindsey Wilson (158) and Southeastern University (135).

The Tigers now have a few weeks to prepare for the NAIA Championship which is set for March 6-7 in Wichita, Kansas.
