Gregory earns 300th steal and Lady Tigers were on fire from deep in rout of Pikeville Bears

PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Savannah Gregory picked up her 300th career steal and the Lady Tigers hit 12 3-pointers en route to a 97-69 win over University of Pikeville on Saturday afternoon.

Gregory started on fire with eight points in the first two minutes – including two Edward Jones 3-point baskets – to finish with a team-high 21 points. That kick-started Campbellsville's (24-2, 10-2 MSC) day and the Lady Tigers never looked back.

Overall on the afternoon the Lady Tigers hit 12-of-26 from deep (46%) and forced the second-most turnovers (30) for the Bears all season. Gregory, who needed one steal to sit at 300 swipes in her career, tallied three to lead Campbellsville and remains third on the all-time list with 302 career steals. Sammy Rogers, Caitlin Hall, Lexy Lake and Faith Lake all carded two steals.

Sammy Rogers, who made her first-career start, scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds to match Gregory and Ashlee McGeorge with team-high honors. Madison Faulkner came off the bench and scored 14 points in 18 minutes of action.

The triples came in a flurry to start as CU hit three of them in the first four minutes. Gregory hit two and Lexy Lake drained another to give CU a 9-6 lead. After leading 16-12 at the end of the first quarter, CU really took control in the second quarter.

The Lady Tigers out-scored UPIKE 27-14 in the quarter behind five 3-point baskets – one from Gregory then two each from Caitlin Hall and Rogers. With the 3s, the Lady Tigers went on a 25-7 run towards the end of the frame and UPIKE never could recover.

Leading 43-26 at halftime, the third quarter went much like the second. This time it was Shyla Calbert, who also made her first-career start, scored the first of her nine points with a 3 just 29 seconds into the frame.

The fourth frame saw action from every Lady Tiger dressed today with all but one scoring a point. Campbellsville and UPIKE both shot 46 percent overall but the Lady Tigers took 24 more attempts (36-of-78), while the Bears were 25-of-54.

The Bears were without Mary Englert today after she dropped a career-high 24 points in the first matchup on January 8. Brianna Brubridge led the way for UPIKE with 26 points and 10 rebounds to record her seventh double-double of the year.

Campbellsville now sits tied with Lindsey Wilson atop the Mid-South Conference standings at 10-2. The Blue Raiders knocked off Shawnee State on Saturday to push the Bears to 9-3 overall in MSC play.

The Lady Tigers have a full week to prepare for Lindsey Wilson as the two meet on February 15 in the Powell Athletic Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET
