Judd delivers game-winning triple and walk-off homer in doubleheader wins over Morningside & Faulkner

GULF SHORES — Hannah Judd delivered a two-run game-winning triple in game one vs. No. 20 Morningside and then hit a walk off home run in game two vs. Faulkner University leading No. 13 Campbellsville to a pair of wins on Friday.

The Lady Tigers (10-7) had to rally in each game to setup the Judd fireworks in the sixth inning against Morningside and the first pitch in the bottom of the seventh against Faulkner. Judd finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate with four runs scored and three RBI.

Payton Blades (4-1) earned the win in game one after going the distance by allowing eight hits and two earned runs while striking out four. Katy Chadwell (2-1) earned the victory in game two after relieving Courtney Patterson and Karson Williams

Game one: Campbellsville 4, Morningside 2

Blades was good in the circle but the Mustangs took a 1-0 lead after the first inning when Lexi Stolen picked up the third hit in the inning – an RBI single to left field. Morningside scored again in the bottom of the fifth after a two-out hit by Carson Cameron putting the CU deficit at 2-0.

Campbellsville was being no-hit until the fourth inning when Riley Hurst singled down the left field line. The fifth inning saw Sam McKee lay down a bunt base hit but both were stranded.

The sixth inning was all Campbellsville. Lexi Miller singled and Ryley Whitney reached on an error with one out. Miller and Sky Keown, the pinch-runner for Whitney, moved to second and third after a wild pitch to setup Hurst's second hit of the day to score a run.

Then Judd delivered a two-run triple to right-center field giving the Lady Tigers a 3-2 lead. Madison Davis extended the lead with an insurance run to score Judd with a single to right field putting CU ahead, 4-2.

In the final two innings for Morningside, Blades allowed a hit in each but got out of both including a strikeout to Carson Cameron ending the game.

Game two: Campbellsville 6, Faulkner 5

Courtney Patterson fell victim to five total runs but only two were earned as CU's defense let her down in the circle. Faulkner scored four runs in the first two innings to lead until the Lady Tigers got on the board in the second.

Judd walked to lead off the frame and moved to second on a Davis sac bunt. She ended up scoring on an RBI single up the middle by Dana Adkins

Down only 4-1, Faulkner answered in the third extending the lead back to three runs. Nine-hole hitter Brianna Cagle scored Maggie Tipton with a two-out single up the middle.

Williams entered the circle in the fourth and sat the Eagles down 1-2-3 to setup a run-scoring fourth inning for CU. Judd doubled to left field and Davis singled up the middle cutting the lead to three, 5-2.

The sixth inning is when the Lady Tigers tied it up by taking advantage of two walks in the inning. Adkins and Miller both walked before Tori Humphrey delivered a slow rolling single up the middle that turned into a wild sequence of plays. Adkins rounded third and looked to score but the Faulkner shortstop made a play and threw home to get Adkins in a run down. But the catch, Tipton, threw the back-pick down the left field line allowing not only Adkins but also Miller to score and cut the deficit to one, 5-4.

Ryley Whitney tied the game, 5-5, with an RBI single to left field scoring Humphrey.

Williams allowed two singles in the inning before giving way to Chadwell who worked a strikeout and popup.

The first pitch of the seventh inning was a liner down the leftfield line that Judd demolished through the 20mph wind gusts – her second homer of the year.
