Mason and Mitchell earn Second-Team All-MSC honors; King named to Champions of Character Team

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Three men's basketball student-athletes earned accolades at Friday night's Mid-South Conference banquet hosted at the National Corvette Museum. 
 
Taiveyhon Mason and Richie Mitchell both earned Second-Team All-Conference honors, while Jacob King was named to the Mid-South Conference Champions of Character Team. 
 
Mason leads the Tigers by scoring 13.6 points per game and 3.57 assists per game. His 59 steals rank No. 14 in the country and his 1.96 steals per game rank No. 19. 
 
Heading into the MSC Tournament on Saturday evening, Mason has scored in double figures in six-straight games and eight of the last nine games to end the regular season. He scored a career-high 35 points leading Campbellsville over No. 1 Georgetown College on Feb. 22. In the regular season, Mason scored 20+ points five times and 30+ once. 
 
Mitchell came on midway through the season and worked his way into the starting lineup. He scored 10.4 points per game and has hit 40 3-point baskets – both are second on the team. 
 
Once conference play started, Mitchell started to be a force on the offensive end of the floor. He scored in doubles figures 15 of the 18 games to close out the regular season, including two-straight 20+ performances over Georgetown College (28) and Cumberlands (22). In conference play, Mitchell averaged 14.5 points per game. 
 
Jacob King earned Champions of Character Team honors along with Cumberland University's Jalen Duke, University of the Cumberlands Chance Edwards, Georgetown's Hugues Mbumba, Life's Jordan Hernandez, Lindsey Wilson's Matt Eldridge, Pikeville's Cheikh Ndiaye, Shawnee State's Bailey Davis and Thomas More's Braden Connor. 
 
Chris Coffey, from Georgetown College, was named the MSC Player of the Year, while Thomas More's Reid Jolly was named Freshman of the Year. EJ Onu, from Shawnee State, was named the Defensive Player of the Year. 
 
The Tigers get started in the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET when CU meets No. 4-seed Shawnee State in the quarterfinal round.
