HENDERSON, Tenn. – In just their second Mid-South Conference rematch of the season, the Campbellsville University women's basketball team ran away with a 78-54 victory over Freed-Hardeman University on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Tigers were the benefactors of a stellar performance from senior
Sammy Rogers as the Lawrenceburg, Ky. native dropped a career-high 29 points in the game. For Rogers, it's her third game of scoring 20 or more points and the second time she recorded a career-high this season.
She shot 9-for-16 overall from the field, 5-of-7 from three-point distance, and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line as she also added four rebounds, four steals, and a blocked shot. The only other Lady Tiger in double figures was
Courtney Pritchett as the redshirt sophomore scored 11 points while grabbing a team-high six rebounds while also adding four steals and a pair assists.
The Lions were led by a 20-point, 11-rebound double-double from Caroline Chambers as they also only had two players in double figures with Chynia Brooks also adding 12 points off the bench.
FHU was limited in their rotation as they only mainly played seven players 22 or more minutes with Campbellsville running as many as 11 players deep in their rotation with nobody playing more than the 26 minutes put in by Rogers.
Freed-Hardeman was able to get off to a better start than they did in the matchup on Jan. 11 in Campbellsville as they finished the quarter trailing only 15-10 after they were outscored 31-6. But it was the second and third quarters for the second-straight game that helped CU really pull away as they combined to outscore the Lions by 19 points to head into the fourth quarter leading by 24.
The remainder of the Lady Tigers' supporting cast beyond Rogers and Pritchett included eight points from
Faith Lake and
Sarah Sutton, seven points from
Savannah Gregory, six points from
Lexy Lake, four points from
Bailey Pedigo, three points from
Maddy Boyle, and two points from
Madison Sheppard.
Up next for Campbellsville will be a top-five NAIA matchup when the top ranked Lady Tigers head to Crestview Hills, Ky. for a road game against No. 4 Thomas More University at 5:30 p.m. ET on Monday.
