Box Score 2 BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It was a successful opening to the 2021 portion of the schedule for the Campbellsville University women's volleyball team as they earned a 3-2 win over Shawnee State then swept Cumberland University 3-0.
In the win over Shawnee State, the set wins went back and forth until the final two sets as the scores went 15-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-23, and 15-13 with the sweep over Cumberland going 25-20, 27-25, 25-17 for the Lady Tigers to finish out their weekend going undefeated at the Vette City Classic.
In the Shawnee State match,
Sutton Mason led the Lady Tigers with 16 kills on 39 total attempts with only five errors for a .282 hitting percentage. Both
Sonia Flendrich and Hannah McGIll added 11 kills in the match as they both also had over 30 attack attempts.
The fifth set was tight throughout as the Bears led 11-9 but CU scored four-straight points to take a 13-11 lead as the Lady Tigers closed out the match with a 15-13 set win.
SSU's Macie Rhoads led all players with 17 kills with Bethany Colling adding 11 and Nashail Shelby also finishing with 10 kills.
In the Lady Tigers' 3-0 sweep of Cumberland, Flendrich and Mason were the top two on the team in kills as Flendrich finished with a double-double at 12 kills and 15 digs and Mason finished with eight kills and a pair of aces. McGill was right behind those two once again as she finished with six kills along with middle blocker
Taylor Weirich haivng six kills as well.
Nicole Carey was the lone Phoenix in double figures with kills as she finished with 10 on 30 attempts as Maddie Perez was the next highest player for Cumberland with seven kills.
Setter
Paige Merrick finished with a double-double in ever match of the Vette City Classic as she had 46 assists and 11 digs agianst Shawnee State then followed that up with 28 assists and 11 digs against Cumberland.
CU women's volleyball will continue with regular season play with their next four matches coming on the road as they'll open February with a non-conference match at Asbury on Feb. 6 then jump into Mid-South Conference matches.
