The Lady Tigers emerge from early deficit with conference win against the Phoenix

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #13 Campbellsville University women's soccer team rallied in the second half to overcome a 2-0 deficit against the #18 Cumberland University Phoenix and win Wednesday night, 3-2.

Look outside of the score and one would assume the game was knotted at the half. Nonetheless, the Lady Tigers were caught reeling in the opening 45 minutes. The defenses on both teams were breaking down often but Campbellsville was unable to capitalize. Off a Lady Tigers push in the 11th minute, the Phoenix were able to reverse the pressure for their first score of the night.

It's not like the Lady Tigers didn't have their chances though. A Kieh shot went wide after breaking down Cumberland's prevention. A goal by the Phoenix's Bathe in the 16' minute made the deficit 2-0 at half time despite the similar numbers. There were 10 shots compared to nine by Campbellsville and three saves over the Lady Tigers' two.

In the second half, the Campbellsville women's soccer team flipped the proverbial switch. Within the first five minutes, Sangmin Cha launched a shot from around 30 yards out from an assist by Angeline Kieh that was good. Then, two minutes later from a free kick by Lauren Woodcock the ball bounced off the head of a Phoenix defender and into the net. Despite these goals in quick succession, it wouldn't be until Jenna Croteau's penalty kick in the 75th minute that the Lady Tigers would take the lead and never look back.

The final box score reflects the control Campbellsville exerted on the last 45 minutes. Goals don't matter much when your defense doesn't step up, but that's exactly what Campbellsville did in the second half. The Lady Tigers held the Phoenix to just one shot while they piled on 9 more.

The Lady Tigers return to the pitch in Finley Stadium on Saturday October 23 at 6 p.m. ET to host the #3 University of Tennessee Southern Firehawks.
