Lady Tigers allow three first half goals en route to 3-1 loss to Lindsey Wilson

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The #14 Campbellsville University Lady Tigers fought valiantly against the #12 Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders Thursday night but fell 3-1.

From the first kick, the Lady Tigers were eager to press their advantage. Convincing control was exerted by Campbellsville in the opening minutes; a header by Angeline Kieh floated just over the crossbar within the initial five. A Jenna Croteau sliding kick off an assist from Lauren Woodcock would connect in the 8th minute to give Campbellsville the 1-0 lead. At that point, Lindsey Wilson dialed up their own offensive pressure.

A Blue Raider header would bounce off the post in the 13th minute. Campbellsville keeper Doeschka Birnage would prevent a breakaway with a diving grab, but less than ten minutes later Lindsey Wilson would net an equalizer from a corner kick. A mere three minutes later, Birnage deflected a goal attempt which fell back to the Blue Raiders who attempted again and led to a handball against the Lady Tigers. That handball in the box led to a penalty kick which Lindsey Wilson made the most of to climb into the lead. A Campbellsville response looked possible when Milena Derougeur got the ball to the opposing goal line, but the Blue Raiders' keeper cleared it spurring a fast break that resulted in a Lindsey Wilson goal just before the horn for halftime.

It was eight shots each at the half with three on goal for the Lady Tigers and five for the Blue Raiders. Two saves a piece by the keepers kept the Lindsey Wilson lead considerable but not insurmountable.

The beginning of the second half saw shots fired away by both teams. In the first 20 minutes, Campbellsville logged seven shots while Lindsey Wilson kicked five of their own. Despite two of those shots being on goal by the Blue Raiders and three by the Lady Tigers, none would translate to scores. Riley Thompson, relieving an injured Birnage at halftime, had her hands full catching kicks in the latter 45.

Although there was plenty of back-and-forth action in the second half, neither team would be able to penetrate the opposing team's defense. Thompson would ultimately reel in five saves in her effort preventing Lindsey Wilson from scoring again in the match (despite the Blue Raiders launching 11 shot opportunities).

The Lady Tigers will end their regular season in their next matchup traveling to Georgetown College to take on the Tigers. That game will be Saturday October 30th at 3:30 p.m. ET.
