Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #22 Campbellsville University Tigers defeated the Thomas More Saints 3-1 Saturday night behind a smothering defensive effort.
The first minutes were precarious for Campbellsville. Thomas More caught goalkeeper
Jeremi Campagnolo out of position, maneuvered around him, and skipped the ball across the turf for a deep goal with two Tigers trailing attempting to intercept. The Tigers had a great opportunity to score three minutes later but
Sergio Tarrida's shot hit off the far-post and bounced away. Tarrida would get a chance again in the 14
th minute but the ball struck the crossbar. Campbellsville would nail the equalizer ten minutes later when
Gustav Oskarsson found
Pedro Ramos for a near-post strike he slid in past the Saints keeper. That goal was Ramos' third in the past three games.
The match went into the half knotted at one goal each despite the Tigers mostly controlling the pitch. Campbellsville had plenty of chances (11 shots) but couldn't translate. Still, their defense was stalwart keeping the Saints to just one shot of their own.
Campbellsville came out in the second half continuing to fire shots at the goal. The Tigers would take three shots before
Sebastiano Musu assisted
Eleder Goicoechea for a goal in the 58
th minute. Goicoechea would return the favor to
Tom Edge in the 87
th minute when he provided the pass for Edge's score. The second 45 minutes were full of fouls and yellow cards. By the time the horn ended, the Saints had 13 fouls and the Tigers had 14 while four yellow cards were handed out to both sides each. When all was said and done, the Tigers out-shot the Saints by 21.
