The Tigers come up short against Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Tigers traveled to University of the Cumberlands in a Mid-South match-up this afternoon losing 72-66.

Campbellsville kept the same starting line-up as recent games with Peyton Broughton, Cameron Carmical, Jarius Key, Ross Ryan, and Jace Wallace. The game began with a steal by Cumberlands and this display of aggression from the Patriots set the Tigers off balance. Campbellsville had to crank up their aggression to retake control of the contest. The Patriots led by ten with 13:30 left in the first half. The Patriot's field goal percentage was almost half as good to that of CU's at that point. The Tigers put an end to this when they tied it up at 21-21. Campbellsville worked to outscore the Cumberlands and did so successfully. The Tigers displayed dominance as they took a nine-point lead. The half ended with the Patriots cutting into that led but still it was 36-32 in favor of Campbellsville.

At the half, Campbellsville increased their field goal percentage to 48.5% and Cumberlands stood at 40.6%. The Tigers remained valiant inside the paint and were able to collect 26 points compared to the Patriots' eight points.

In the second half, Campbellsville decreased their pace. Cumberlands were able to outscore Campbellsville early in the second half. However, the Tigers did not let up their intensity though. Towards the close of half, Campbellsville closed this gap, but their efforts were not enough. Campbellsville fell to the Cumberlands 72-66.

The Tigers ended the contest almost even with Cumberlands in field goal percentage. Campbellsville finished with 46.8% and Cumberlands with 46.9%. The Tigers also remained neck-and-neck with Cumberlands in rebounds: 33 to 34 respectively.

Game leaders of the evening were Wallace who led the team with 14 points, Malachi De Sousa followed him with 13, and Key paired with Ryan for 12 points each. Key rose above the rest of the Tigers with a total of 10 out of the team's 33 rebounds. Campbellsville remained resilient in the paint as they added 20 more points in the second half.

The Tigers will next be back home hosting a two-day CU Thanksgiving Classic beginning on November 26th at 6 p.m. ET.
