Defensive intensity carries the Tigers over Southeastern Baptist

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Campbellsville University men's basketball team traveled to Lindsey Wilson College to compete in day two of the Sleep Inn Classic. Campbellsville left Biggers Sports Center victorious as they ended the day with a final score of 96-65.

The Tigers came to the arena with the same intensity as night one. Campbellsville displayed their drive to get ahead of the Chargers early in the half. Ross Ryan was on early and racked up eight points against the scoreless Southeastern Baptist. Cameron Carmical produced back-to-back layups to make the score 12-0. The Tigers' aggressive offense forced the Chargers to 13 turnovers. As a result, the Tigers were able to score 23 points from the Chargers' mistakes. Carmical exhibited his desire for the ball as he totaled three steals out of the four that Campbellsville earned.

The Tigers were showing valiant skill in working the ball around the court. Campbellsville collected 24 of their points by being strong in the paint. The Chargers only took three shots from the perimeter whereas the Tigers took 12. Campbellsville's field goal percentage stood at 47.1 entering the second half.

In the second half, Peyton Broughton came out firing with eight straight points to advance the score. The Chargers went for a pressure defense, but Campbellsville was too quick when pushing the ball up the court. Campbellsville continued to capitalize under the basket as they earned 22 more points in the key. The Tigers were ostentatious with a collection of dunks tonight. Almost consecutively, Javaughn Smith, Jace Wallace, and Malachi De Sousa went into the paint with a slam.

The Campbellsville Tiger's shooting improved in the second half. The men's team ended the night with a 53.7 field goal percentage. Ten players contributed to the Tigers final score. Broughton ended the night with an impressive 62.5 field goal percentage. Broughton led the team with 26 points, Wallace with 13, and Ryan had 12.

Jarius Key and Wallace were Campbellsville's defensive leaders by game's end. Key paved the way with eight rebounds and Wallace followed with five.
