Lady Tigers open NCCAA National Tournament pool play with shut-out

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. –  The women's volleyball team defeated the College of the Ozarks Lady Bobcats 3-0 Thursday afternoon in game one of the NCCAA National Tournament.

The first set saw freshman Molly Shannon slam five kills to lead the team while fellow freshman Cierra Merrick was just behind her with four. The set was competitive for both teams as neither recorded over a three-point lead. The Lady Tigers hitting percentage stood as a .226 percent as Campbellsville took the first set in a score of 25-22. 

Campbellsville had a 15-5 run in the second set. The Tigers displayed their strengths as they dominated their competition in kills and hitting percentage. Campbellsville had 18 total kills versus College of the Ozarks' six. The Lions ended set two with a .091 hitting percentage while the Lady Tigers ended with .333 percent. The set was finished in 25-16 in favor of the Lady Tigers. 

Campbellsville finalized their win in a final set score of 25-15. Before the Lady Tigers reached ten, the score was back-and-forth between the competition. Campbellsville closed the set on a 7-3 run. Molly Shannon finished strong with 16 total kills while Cierra Merrick followed her with 12 kills. Hannah McGill tallied seven total kills. 

In a team comparison, Campbellsville was dominant as they totaled 48 kills to College of the Ozarks' 25. The points for the Lady Tigers were assisted mostly by Paige Merrick as she totaled 36 of the team's 47.
