Late goal by Bryson isn't enough as Lady Tigers drop spring opener to Cumberlands, 3-1

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — University of the Cumberlands scored three unanswered goals to up-end Campbellsville women's soccer in its regular season opener, 3-1.

The Lady Tigers (2-2, 0-1 MSC) played three post-season games at the NCCAA Championship in November but today was the regular season opener. University of the Cumberlands improves to 6-0 overall and 2-0 inside MSC play.

The Patriots got the scoring started in the 25th minute as Camara Ainhoa scored after a quick takeaway from the Cumberlands defense. That was the score going into halftime as the Lady Tigers tallied only two shots in the first 45 minutes compared to eight for Cumberlands.

Katelyn Young finished with four saves in the first half and six overall.

In the 52nd minute, Sarah Hammerstone found Randez Shara for a goal just after halftime to put the Patriots up 2-0. UC would eventually go up 3-0 after Alanna Skinner found Ainhoa for her second goal of the day.

Jessie Bryson scored in the 88th minute for CU as Abigail Proctor was credited for the assist but it was too-little too-late for Campbellsville.

Overall, Cumberlands out-shot Campbellsville, 17-7, and UC goalkeeper Laura Vogt finished with three saves.

Weather and field conditions permitting, the Lady Tigers are now scheduled to host Life University on Tuesday, Feb. 23 as kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET at Finley Stadium.
