CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Having the wait until Feb. 23, 2021 to play their first game at Finley Stadium of the 2020 season, the Campbellsville University women's soccer team earned a 1-0 win over Life University.
The game went scoreless for nearly 82 minutes before sophomore forward
Rebecca Lilley finished a header to give CU the only goal of the game. Lilley received a cross from
Olja Ivanovic on the right side as she was all alone inside the box to score it by the keeper.
The Lady Tigers had done a good job most of the game to hold possession but really put the offensive pressure on in the second half to create numerous chances before they finally converted. After only taking four shots in the first half, CU fired seven in the second half, including three on goal.
Though Life didn't possess the ball much, their defense did a good job of limited Campbellsville's quality opportunities as the Lady Tigers really only possessed in their defensive half during the first half.
Outside of Lilley,
Abigail Proctor and
Jessie Bryson were able to fire multiple shots in the game with each recording a shot on goal. Defensively goalkeeper
Katelyn Young wasn't forced into much action as the back line of
Erin Riden and
Lauren Woodcock in the middle as well as any combination of
Brooke Norton,
Sarah Johnston, and
Milena Derougeur outside did a good job of stifling Life's attack.
Campbellsville will get back on the road this Sunday when they continue MSC play in Pikeville, Ky. against University of Pikeville.
