Lady Tigers pick up 12th win in month of March with doubleheader sweep over Midway

VERSAILLES, Ky. — Lady Tiger softball has found its stride lately after winning a doubleheader over Midway University on Tuesday extending their March record to 12-2. 
 
The Lady Tigers won game one against Midway, 2-0, and game two, 9-1. 
 
Offensively, the Lady Tigers slugged 19 hits including four hits by Riley Hurst to lead the way. In the pitching circle, it was a pair of Lady Tigers throwing complete games. Katy Chadwell tossed a shutout in game one allowing only six hits, one walk and striking out five. Her ERA has dipped to 2.47. Courtney Patterson tossed five innings, allowed one run and struck out four. Anna Wantz entered in the sixth inning to finish the game.
 

Game one: Campbellsville 2, Midway 0
 
The Lady Tigers scored single runs in the second and third innings. In the second frame, a two-out walk haunted Madison Ludwig for Midway as Sam McKee took the free pass, stole second base, then Hurst singled up the middle to put CU ahead, 1-0. Overall, in the doubleheader, the Lady Tigers tallied a doubleheader-high eight stolen bases. 
 
In the third inning, Ryley Whitney singled to right field and was followed with an RBI double by Lexi Miller to put CU ahead, 2-0. 
 
Campbellsville has opportunities to score in bunches but left 13 runners on base in total. CU stranded the bases loaded in the first and sixth innings and two more in the seventh. 
 

Game two: Campbellsville 9, Midway 1
 
The Lady Tigers forced the Eagles to go through four pitchers in game two, while Patterson was solid in her first start of the year.
 
CU scored in the top of the second after a leadoff triple by Miller was followed with an RBI single by Payton Blades. The Eagles answered in the bottom half after a two-out double by Anna Herrera score Katie Rhodes who led off the frame with a double. 
 
In the third, CU took its lead for good. Aldridge started the rally again with a one-out single and Tori Humphrey was able to drive her in with a two-out base knock putting CU ahead, 2-1. 
 
The Lady Tigers broke the game open in the fifth with four runs and three more in the sixth. 
 
Morgan Carter and Ryley Whitney both delivered a sacrifice flys, Humphrey had an RBI single, and Keely Bowling scored on a wild pitch. 
 
In the sixth, a leadoff walk to Hadlee Carter scored after a Bowling single then Madison Davis drove in two more with an RBI hit to right field scoring Ryleigh Oldham and Bowling.

Campbellsville is hosting Cumberland University for another Mid-South Conference series this weekend at Hord Field and Veterans Memorial Park. First pitch for the doubleheader on Friday is set for 2 p.m. ET and on Saturday, play begins at 12 p.m. ET.
