LEBANON, Tenn. – Finishing the regular season on the road over the final week, the Campbellsville University women's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 game in double overtime to Cumberland University.
As the game went most of its 106 minutes locked up at a 0-0 tie, a draw looked to be a favorable result for the Lady Tigers against the No. 24 ranked Phoenix but they could not hang on for the final four minutes to force that tie.
Cumberland's Jennifer Segura was able to score her fourth goal of the season, getting the sixth shot attempt on goal for the Phoenix past Campbellsville keeper
Katelyn Young for the golden goal game-winner in double overtime.
The Lady Tigers were outshot significantly in the game as the Phoenix took 23 shots to just six for Campbellsville as Young made the first five saves in the game through the three periods but did not record a save in double overtime. Campbellsville was not credited with any shots in the overtime periods as Cumberland took 14 in regulation then nine more in the overtime sessions.
The only shots on goal taken by Campbellsville were taken by
Abigail Proctor and
Olja Ivanovic as
Rebecca Lilley,
Lauren Woodcock, and
Jenna Croteau all fired shots, just not on frame.
The Lady Tigers will stay on the road for their next game when they head back to Tennessee to face No. 5 Martin Methodist on Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT.
