Lady Tigers flash the leather behind solid pitching performances in doubleheader win over Freed-Hardeman

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – It was the defense making plays to set the pace in game one and Tori Humphrey's solo blast in game two leading Campbellsville softball to two Mid-South Conference victories over Freed-Hardeman.

The Lady Tigers (9-5, 4-0 MSC) won both games, 2-1.

Campbellsville's defense shined today when the ball was put in play, while game one pitchers Katy Chadwell and Morgan Crawford brought it in the circle.

Both teams combined for eight hits in game one but it was Freed-Hardeman's Catherine Crabb hitting a solo blast into the wind over the leftfield fence putting the Lions up 1-0 after only one batter. After that, it was Katy Chadwell sitting 12 straight Lions down and really found her groove in the circle.

Campbellsville did its damage in the second inning. It was a leadoff walk to Ryley Whitney starting the rally as Ryleigh Oldham drove in Whitney tying the game at 1-1. Lexi Miller followed with a one-out single up the middle to score Oldham and that's all Chadwell needed.

Game two would feature another pitching battle. Campbellsville was held hitless until Humphrey sent a game-tying moon shot over the fence in right field. Hannah Judd found her way on via a walk and gave way to Hadlee Carter as a pinch runner. Mia Aldridge would groundout moving Carter to second, but Freed-Hardeman tried to back pick Carter at second on the groundout and threw the ball deep in left field. Carter would scamper home giving CU the 2-1 lead. That's all Karson Williams needed in the circle.

She went seven innings allowing five hits and three walks. The defense was stellar behind her as she didn't record a strikeout in game two picking up her fourth win of the year.

The Lady Tigers get back in action tomorrow afternoon with another doubleheader against Freed-Hardeman. The doubleheader will start at 12 p.m. ET and fans can tune into the CU Sports Network for coverage.
