CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Mid-South Conference foes facing off for the second time in seven days and in a repeat performance of a week earlier, the Campbellsville University men's volleyball team earned a victory over Cumberland University.
The Tigers swept the Phoenix by set scores of 25-21, 25-18, and 25-22 after the Phoenix took Campbellsville to five sets in Lebanon, Tenn. last Tuesday.
Seven different players for Campbellsville finished with four or more kills led by the double-digit efforts from
Isaac Paches and
Rafael Cruz who had 11 and 10 respectively.
Ho Yin Leung added six kills,
Ramon Matos,
Ryan Smith, and
Max Stotridge had five, and
Noah Henkel had four.
Smith and Hernandez spread the ball around nicely from the setter position with Hernandez finishing at 19 assists and Smith adding 14 assists.
Jay Montalvo had another strong night on the back row with a match-high 12 digs.
Cumberland used a rotation of two setters with Jordan Pierce and Christian Lester both setting from the back row and attacking from the front row as Pierce led the Phoenix with 12 kills and 17 assists and Lester added six kills and 11 assists.
The Tigers will remain at home for their next match when they face Mount Vernon Nazarene for a non-conference match before facing Thomas More on the road on Sunday.
