CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – With the last home series for Campbellsville University softball not going the way they had planned, the Lady Tigers jumped out to a good start in their final regular season series at Hord Softball Field with a pair of wins over Georgetown College Friday afternoon.
CU earned a 5-2 win in game one followed by a dominant 8-0 win in game two behind a big offensive day from
Madison Davis and a stellar game two start in the circle for
Karson Williams.
Game 1 Summary
It was an eventful early portion of the game in the series opener between the rival teams of Tigers as the first batter of the game tripled off of CU starter
Katy Chadwell and was singled home one batter later to give Georgetown the 1-0 advantage.
Campbellsville answered in the bottom half after a leadoff single from
Riley Hurst, it was a
Ryley Whitney double to right field that scored the CU shortstop from second to tie the game up at 1-1.
Chadwell threw scoreless innings in the second, third, and fourth as CU climbed out to a 4-1 lead in the second behind some fortunate breaks, scoring on a throwing error on a force out attempt at home, a sacrifice fly from
Mia Aldridge, and a
Payton Blades bases loaded walk.
Heading into the fifth inning with that score still at 4-1, it was a pair of first-career home runs as Brooke Chick of GC hit one out to left in the top half of the inning and Davis hit a towering home run to left to keep the Campbellsville lead at three runs for the final score of 5-2.
Davis went 3-for-3 in the game with two singles and that home run as she continued to swing it well in game two, only being retired once all day.
Game 2 Summary
Game two was the Williams show in the circle for Campbellsville as she threw a complete game in the six-inning run-rule affair with a career-high seven strikeouts while only allowing one hit and two walks.
Williams had a no-hitter through 4.2 innings as she gave up a two-out hit to Georgetown's Kylee West as she slapped a ball into the hole at short for the lone hit of the game.
Hurst delivered more first inning with a leadoff home run to right field over the scoreboard at Hord Field for CU to take an early 1-0 lead. Campbellsville would add another run on a
Tori Humphrey sacrifice fly in the third inning before they really jumped up on Georgetown in the fourth.
The fourth started off with a
Lexi Miller line shot home run to left to make it 3-0 as Hurst followed up with an RBI double then it was Whitney's second RBI double of the day that scored two runs to make it 6-0.
Campbellsville put Georgetown away in the sixth inning with a pair of balls to the wall scoring the seventh and eighth runs of the game and forcing the run rule.
Whitney was intentionally walked to load the bases for Humphrey as she crushed a ball off the wall in center to score a run then Blades doubled to right field to score the final run of the game, closing out the day one sweep.
CU and Georgetown will meet up for two more games tomorrow starting at noon with the second game to follow about 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game at Hord Field.
