You get a homer, you get a homer; Lady Tigers hit seven home runs in doubleheader sweep over Thomas More

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. — Seven home runs and 11 two-out runs led Campbellsville softball to a doubleheader sweep over Thomas More University on Friday.

The 17th-ranked Lady Tigers won 7-3 in game one and 11-2 in game two. The Lady Tigers are two wins away from being crowned Mid-South Conference Co-Champs and the conference's No. 1 seed.

Mia Aldridge corked two homers in game two and drove in a combined six of the 18 runs from the two-hole in the order. Tori Humphrey also hit two round trippers – one in each game – and both three-run shots to match Aldridge's six RBI.

Payton Blades didn't hit a home run but squared up the ball multiple times going 5-for-7 at the plate with four singles and a RBI double.

Game one: Campbellsville 7, Thomas More 3

Katy Chadwell started in the circle and she was given a 6-0 lead before stepping on the rubber. Riley Hurst delivered a leadoff double on the first pitch of the game and scored on an Aldridge single. Ryley Whitney was hit by a pitch before Humphrey hit the first of two homers of the day to put CU ahead, 4-0. Blades singles and Hannah Judd walked to setup a two-RBI single by Lexi Miller pushing the lead to 6-0.

That was the only run CU could get until the sixth inning. A leadoff walk to Miller scored on an RBI single by Aldridge.

Chadwell was solid in the circle and worked out of multiple jams in her 122-pitch performance. The Saints had runners on first and second with no outs in the first and Chadwell worked out of the jam. In the third, the bases were loaded with Andrea Gaham, Thomas More's most decorated hitter in program history, at the plate but Chadwell got her to ground out.

The Saints scored ond in the fourth with two outs. An error led to an RBI single by Hailey McAdoo put Thomas More on the board, 7-1. The Saints had another opportunity in the seventh inning with the game-tying batter at the plate but Chadwell worked out of another bases loaded jam allowing only one run.

Chadwell (16-4) went seven innings and allowed 11 hits and only one earned run while striking out five.

Game two: Campbellsville 11, Thomas More 2

The Saints took a 1-0 lead after the first inning and was hitting Karson Williams hard in the circle. Williams took a liner off the shin and also off her glove and face mask before settling in the final few innings.

She went five innings, allowed five hits, and two unearned runs in total while striking out two.

Offensively, the Lady Tigers led 3-1 after Aldridge sparked CU with a two-out solo homer. Whitney singled after that – which led to another Humphrey home run putting CU ahead, 3-1.

In the fourth, the Lady Tigers scored seven total runs to break it open. Aldridge, Humphrey and Hannah Judd all homered to put the game out of reach.

Sam McKee picked up her first home run of the season in the fifth inning with a one-out solo homer to leadoff the frame.
