Lady Tigers bow out of Mid-South Conference Tournament with semifinal loss to Lindsey Wilson

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Needing an upset win over the No. 1 seed to keep their season alive, the Campbellsville University women's volleyball team dropped a three-set match to Lindsey Wilson College at the Mid-South Conference Tournament Friday afternoon.

The Lady Tigers dropped the 3-0 sweep by set scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 27-25 as the Blue Raiders advanced to the championship match on Saturday.

As a team, LWC was significantly more efficient on the attack than Campbellsville as they finished with 54 kills on 149 attacks with 14 errors for a .268 hitting percentage. CU, comparatively, finished with only 37 kills on 147 attacks with 18 errors to finish at a .129 attack percentage.

Alexis Smith for the Blue Raiders led all attackers with 14 kills as she finished with a .270 hitting percentage. Both Radaisy Valdez and Alix Stoermer finished with double digit kills and strong attack percentages as Valdez had 12 kills and hit for a .524 and Stoermer had 10 kills and a .350 hitting percentage.

For CU, Sutton Mason led the team in kills with nine as both Sonia Flendrich and Alina Zellin added eight in support, but no Lady Tiger finished with a higher attack percentage than Mason's .250 in the match.

Paige Merrick finished with a double-double at 29 assists and 17 digs, but it wasn't enough to push CU into a set win towards a potential upset. Libero Katie Morin also finished with double digit digs at 12 to tie for second on the team in that category.

With Friday's result, Campbellsville's 2020 season likely ends as they aren't currently at a voting standpoint for an at-large bid into the NAIA Tournament. The 2021 season could look to trend up for head coach Rinata Aisena as she will head into her second year, losing no players from the current roster as it stands as the Lady Tigers have no seniors on the roster.

CU finished the 2020 season, in the spring of 2021, with an 18-9 overall record for a one-win improvement compared to the 2019 in eight less matches played. The Lady Tigers will look to build on this season's turnaround heading into a quick restart to the 2021 season, expected to start in August.
