Whitney's homer, Judd's defense, and Chadwell's gem leads CU over Georgetown

COLUMBIA, Ky. — A three-run homer in the fifth inning by the Mid-South Conference Player of the Year Ryley Whitney and a stellar pitching performance by Katy Chadwell led Campbellsville to a 5-1 win over Georgetown College in the MSC Tournament.

Chadwell (18-4) allowed a leadoff home run to Carly Oliver to start the game but then settled down nicely in her first career MSC game. Chadwell ended up sitting down 20 of the final 22 batters to pick up her 11thcomplete game of the year.

The Lady Tigers answered with one run in the bottom of the first to even the score, 1-1. Riley Hurst delivered a bloop double then it was followed with a rocket-shot double by Mia Aldridge to left-center scoring her teammate.

The scoring opportunities were there for CU but couldn't pick up the timely hit in the next few frames. In the fifth, Whitney broke it open for good with a three-run home run after Hurst and Aldridge both singled with one out.

The Lady Tigers picked up an insurance run in the sixth inning as Ryleigh Oldham drove in Hadlee Carter with an RBI single off the centerfield fence.

The defense was on point for the Lady Tigers. Hannah Judd recorded all three outs in the fifth inning, including an over the shoulder Willie Mays style grab over her shoulder, a one-hop liner, and a remarkable diving play to her glove side (go look at @CvilleLTS on Twitter to find those photos).

The top-seeded Lady Tigers improve to 38-11 on the year and will now play on Friday evening between the winner of Lindsey Wilson and Freed-Hardeman. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. ET in the MSC Tournament winners bracket finall.

Fifth-seeded Georgetown will play the loser of the LWC and FHU contest in a loser's bracket game after the Tigers fall to 24-19 on the year.
