Miller's two home runs and a pair of double plays lead CU over No. 5 Lindsey Wilson

COLUMBIA, Ky. — Three home runs including two by Lexi Miller off the Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Year led No. 16 Campbellsville University past No. 5 Lindsey Wilson in the MSC Winner's Bracket finals, 7-4.

The Lady Tigers hit three homers – two by Miller and another by Ryleigh Oldham – to put the exclamation point on the upset win. Miller was 3-for-3 off the All-American from Lindsey Wilson, Annabelle Ramirez. Oldham went 1-for-2 with a hit-by-pitch and two runs scored, while Hannah Judd and Payton Blades also had timely hits.

Katy Chadwell (19-4) went the distance to earn her 19th win of the year after allowing three earned runs, walking one, and not striking out a batter. After a shaky start defensively, the Lady Tigers shined with two double plays, a diving play and catches over the shoulder to hold the Blue Raiders at bay.

Annabelle Ramirez (25-5) went six innings allowing six earned runs and striking out seven.

The Blue Raiders had an opportunity in the first inning with runners on second and third with no outs but CU got out of the jam with a could fielder's choices and a lineout. LWC broke the scoreless tie in the second with a leadoff homer by Lyric Houston – her 10th of the year – and RBI singles by Makea-Al Kaluau and Sam Sims.

Campbellsville answered with a run in the third to make it 3-1 Lindsey Wilson. Miller hit the first of two homers with a laser to left-center.

In the third, Lindsey Wilson grounded into its first double of the night, a 5-3 twin killing, after having runners on first and second with two outs.

Campbellsville took its first lead, 4-3, after the third. A leadoff hit-by-pitch to Oldham, a fielder's choice error allowed Riley Hurst to reach, and a hit-by-pitch to Mia Aldridge loaded the bases with no outs. Ryley Whitney and Tori Humphrey both popped up but with two outs Oldham scored on a wild pitch to bring CU within a run, 3-2. Then Payton Blades picked up a two-out two-RBI single up the middle scoring two more giving CU the advantage after three, 4-3.

Lindsey Wilson tied it up in the fourth, 4-4, after a leadoff double by Carissa Summers scored on an error by CU. The Blue Raiders had a chance to get back in front with the bases loaded and no outs but a ground ball to Aldridge at first started a 3-2-4 double play helping Chadwell get out of the jam.

After that, Chadwell sat down 11 of the final 12 batters she faced. The only base runner that reached was a intentional walk to Kaluau in the sixth.

The Lady Tigers broke through with three runs in the sixth. Hannah Judd hit a missile down the left-field line for a single and Miller followed with a eight-pitch at-bat and hit her second homer of the night putting CU ahead, 6-4. Then Ryleigh Oldham followed a few batters later as she pelted a moon shot to left-center for her first round tripper of the season.

Campbellsville now has to be beaten twice in the MSC Championship on Saturday afternoon. The games have been moved up to try and beat the rain entering south-central Kentucky tomorrow evening.

CU will play at 3:30 p.m. CT / 4:30 p.m. ET at Sparks Park. Their opponent won't be settled until after at the 1:30 p.m. game on Saturday.
