ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – The first match of the Lady Tigers' season came down to the wire, but the Campbellsville Women's Soccer team scored the go-ahead goal in the 81
st minute to take the 3-2 victory over the Roosevelt Lakers.
Junior midfielder
Sangmin Cha put points on the board first tapping in a cross from far left by
Lina Berrah. Despite taking seven shots, that would be the only goal by the Lady Tigers in the first half.
Roosevelt scored twice before the horn, taking a 2-1 lead heading in to the second half. It could have been 3-1 except for a stellar save by freshman goalkeeper
Doeschka Birnage.
The match proved to be the tale of two halves. Freshman goalkeeper
Riley Thompson relieved Birnage and Campbellsville took 17 shots compared to the first half's seven.
Angeline Kieh connected with a clever goal in the 69
th minute from a pass by
Allison Sekura. The Lady Tigers then sealed the game with junior forward
Rebecca Lilley's strike off an assist from fellow junior
Olja Ivanovic.
The onslaught of attack by the Lady Tigers in the second half was met with remarkable resistance. Roosevelt's starting goalkeeper, sophomore Gaby Aguinaga-Hernandez, recorded all eight of her saves in the second half. The match was physical too, 23 total fouls were called.
The Lady Tigers' next game will be their home debut Friday September 3rd against Aquinas College at 6 p.m. ET.
