CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University women's soccer defeated the University of Pikeville Bears Tuesday night 8-0.
The Lady Tigers stamped their mark on the game early. Campbellsville drove down to the goal in the very first minute. Although
Lina Berrah's attempt was not fruitful, it would set the tone for the remainder of the match. The Lady Tigers recorded five of their 19 shots in the first five minutes of the match. The Bears defense began packing the box in response and the first 27 minutes would be scoreless.
The floodgates opened when
Jenna Croteau knocked in a shot from teammate Sang Min Cha. From that point the pressure from the Lady Tigers would mount. It would only be 9 more minutes until Croteau would connect on a corner kick cross from senior defender
Milena Derougeur. Just three minutes after that, freshmen midfielder
Killian Morrison notched her first career goal from another dime by Derougeur. Morrison would double her career count four minutes later when a corner led to a header by Croteau which fed Morrison's header of her own.
After 19 shots (10 on goal) and eight corners in the first half, the Lady Tigers played a more methodical game in the second. Sophomore midfielder
Sydney Martin launched a ball into the back of the net in the 58
th minute for her first goal of the season. The shot came off a free kick by Derougeur that was deflected off the Bears' defense straight to Martin. In the waning minutes of the contest, two goals would take the Lady Tigers up to 7 for the night. Sophomore
Isabelle Presljic booted her first career goal in the 80
th minute and
Olja Ivanovic hit the back of the net off an assist from fellow junior
Jessie Bryson.
Rebecca Lilley would sneak in a goal around Pikeville's keeper for the final score of the match in the 89
th minute. When the final horn sounded, Campbellsville had held the Bears to zero shots while recording 30 of their own with 15 on goal. Pikeville had six saves in the first half but only 1 in the second.
The Campbellsville University women's soccer team will have four days before they host another Mid-South Conference opponent in the Bears of Shawnee State. That match takes place Saturday September 25
