The Lady Tigers kick upset bid over #5 University of the Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Campbellsville University women's soccer team knocked off the #5 Patriots of University of the Cumberlands. CU moves to 7-1 and unbeaten in conference play at 3-0.

In the first half, it was essentially an even matchup. Both teams would spend much of the time feeling each other out. Campbellsville would lead the shot category 5-1, putting two of the five on frame. The only shot from UC in the first half would find the back of the net. Jayden Boelter finished home her ninth goal of the season in just as many saves. The goal was assisted by Laura Navajas and Sarah Hammerstone.

The tides would turn in half number two. Campbellsville utilized their second half adjustments to tremendous effect. It was only seven minutes into the half before Angeline Kieh found Sangmin Cha for the leveling goal. This was Cha's sixth goal of the year and Kieh's fifth assist on the season.

Campbellsville capitalized on that momentum when two minutes later a penalty was called that put CU in scoring position. Jenna Croteau would step up to the spot for the potential go-ahead goal and deliver her third goal this year. That was all that Campbellsville would need to pull off the win over the fifth ranked Patriots.

Doeschka Birnage would pick up a save in 90 minutes of action. It was an impressive display for Georgia Martell in goal for UC. She would keep five Lady Tiger shots from reaching the net. Campbellsville was paced by Angeline Kieh and Rebecca Lilley firing four shots each, Lilley placing three of those on frame. Campbellsville would fire 13 shots as a club, putting seven on goal.

The Lady Tigers are amid a three-game road trip. Their next match is against the Running Eagles of Life University this Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. Georgetown awaits a Battle of the Tigers next Wednesday to wrap up this road stint.
