HENDERSON, Tenn. – The #3 Campbellsville University's women's basketball team traveled to Freed-Hardeman University to compete against the Lady Lions Saturday afternoon. The Lady Tigers head back to Campbellsville 17-2 on the season after a 55-51 win over their Mid-South Conference opponent.
To begin the game, Faith Lake scored first for the Lady Tigers. Ashlee McGeorge and Courtney Pritchett followed and took a 6-2 lead over the Lady Lions. Lauren Lee went to the line with the first foul on the night where she made both free throw shots with ease. McGeorge extended the Lady Tigers' lead to seven points as she made the score 16-9. At the end of the first quarter, the score read 16-11 with the Lady Tigers in the lead.
Lake opened the second quarter with a three pointer and gave the Lady Tigers their biggest lead of the night: 19-11. With a lot of back-and-forth action, Maddy Boyle ended a big run from the Lady Lions. With less than three minutes left in the second quarter, the Lady Tigers and Lady Tigers were tied at 29. A shot by Pritchett sent the lead to 31-29. At the end of the first half, the Lady Tigers and Lady Lions were tied at 31.
The Lady Tigers had hit only one of the seven three pointers they attempted. They had shot 100 percent from the free point line and 48 percent for field goals, compared to the Lady Lions who shot 50 percent from the free point line and 38 percent for field goals.
The Lady Lions took the first bucket in the second half. Lauren Lee was taken to the line to give the Lady Tigers a one-point lead, 34-33. Shortly after, Shyla Calbert found herself at the charity stripe too and made both free throws. This gave the Lady Tigers a five-point lead, 40-35. After a few errors, the Lady Tigers and Lady Lions became tied again at 40. With a little under three minutes left in the third quarter, the Lady Lions took the lead to 42-40. Lee shot two-for-two from the free point line to tie the score at 42. At the end of the third quarter, the Lady Tigers fell behind the Lady Lions' three-point lead, 45-42.
The Lady Lions extended their lead to five at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The score sat at 47-42. Lake and McGeorge answered back to cut the lead to only one point, 47-46. Kaitlynn Wilks was taken to the free point line and kept the free point percentage perfect. Lee then took the lead back with a bucket, 50-49. Pritchett extended the lead to three points for the Lady Tigers with only 48 seconds left in the ball game. Boyle and Lee helped the Lady Tigers extend it when they were sent to the free throw line, ultimately raising the score to 55-49. With several fouls and timeouts in the last minute of the game, the Lady Tigers came out on top with a final score of 55-51.
The Lady Tigers field goal percentage posted 40 percent from the field and their three-point percentage fell to only nine percent. It was defense and free throws that took Campbellsville to the win. Pritchett led the way with 14 points. Lee wasn't far behind with 11 points.
The Lady Tigers will be on the road again Monday to take on Shawnee State University. The game is set to begin at 6 p.m. ET.
