LOUISVILLE, KY – It was a day where records fell, standards were set, and many points were scored for the Tigers at the inaugural Tiger Paw Invitational co-hosted with Georgetown College.
The triple jump stole the show for the Tigers. All four athletes finished in scoring position.
CamRon Hamby was the highlight of the day when he won the event with a new school record and NAIA A standard mark of 14.47m. This places Hamby at #9 in the nation.
In 2019, Garland Webb set the school record for the triple jump to win his first national title of his career at the indoor NCCAA Championships with his former record mark of 14.39m.
Corey Smith II was right behind Hamby with his mark of 14.24m. Smith has already qualified for the NAIA Championships with a 14.30m A standard mark earlier in the season.
David Young was able to place fourth with an NCCAA standard mark at 13.89m. 2021 NCCAA outdoor national champion
Brevon Whitney placed seventh overall in the event with an NCCAA mark of 12.97m.
Hamby and
Barrye Trotter were able to collect 14 more points in the high jump. Hamby placed second with a height of 1.91m while Trotter placed third with his equal mark of 1.91m. Finshing out the field event scoring was
Seth Cartwright in the shot put. Cartwright placed fifth overall throwing a distance of 13.00m.
On the track the distance team shined with multiple points scored throughout the day.
Sam Kiser led the way with two bronze medal finishes. In the 600m he ran a time of 1:25.14 while in the 1,000m he ran a time of 2:34.80. Alex Steen came three seconds behind Kiser in the 600m with his seventh place finish of 1:28.04.
Freshman
Dakota Brady picked up key points in the mile with a NCCAA standard time of 4:32.96.
In the distance medley relay Campbellsville had two squads in the event. The team of Brady,
Brandon Irvin,
Brayden Thomas, and
Samuel Bennett placed sixth overall with a time of 11:36.88. The team of
Shawn Little,
Mack Mullenhour,
Ben Graf, and
Ian McAninch placed eighth in the event at 11:45.47.
The final school record that fell on the day was the 4x400m relay.
Maikyah Stowe, Trotter, Moore, and
Isaiah Harris placed fourth overall in the race with a new record time of 3:28.32. Steen,
Lukas Smithson, Graf, and Kiser were in a separate relay placing sixth overall in the event at 3:36.61.
Campbellsville will return to action next Friday February 4
th when they travel to Greencastle, IN to compete at DePauw University.
