Tigers win crucial match against Georgetown 3-1 with one match remaining in the regular season

CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY – Campbellsville wins critical match against Georgetown with a 3-1 win at home with one match to go in the regular season.

In the first set, the Lady Tigers started the match receiving, and Jalyn Michael scored a monster kill to give her team the first point of the set and they never looked back. The Lady Tigers led throughout the entire set and dominated the Georgetown Tigers. The Lady Tigers controlled the Georgetown offense with some strong serves, strong net play, and secured 11 total digs in the backrow. They limited Georgetown to a .250 hitting percentage while hitting at a blistering .583. The Lady Tigers defeated Georgetown in this set, 25-13. The Lady Tigers were led on offense by Cierra Merrick with 4 kills.

In the second set, Georgetown would make some adjustments and came out with some firepower. They would open up a 9-1 lead forcing the Lady Tigers to take an early timeout. Georgetown made some defensive adjustments as well as some serving adjustments and that proved to be just what they needed as they defeated the Lady Tigers, 23-25 to even the match at one set a piece. The Lady Tigers offense stalled in this set hitting at a .103 clip and Georgetown was able to penetrate the Lady Tigers defense for a .341 hitting percentage.  The Lady Tigers were led by Molly Shannon with 4 kills. 

In the third set, the Lady Tigers were out on a mission as they tore through Georgetown's defense building a 17-8 lead. The Lady Tigers used the formula that worked best for them in the first set, strong serving, strong net play, and a stingy back row. The Lady Tigers offense went back to a blistering pace hitting at a .417 clip. The Lady Tigers defense limited the Georgetown offense to a .217 hitting percentage. A big difference in this set was the serving game of the Lady Tigers, they aced Georgetown twice while forcing them to have 4 reception errors. The Lady Tigers captured the set, 25-18, and took a two set to one lead in the match. Shannon had 5 kills in the set and McKenna Barfield had 2 blocks to lead the defense. 

Early on in the fourth set, neither team was willing to give up control. With the score 9-9, Makenna Barfield secured back to back blocks to give the Lady Tigers a two-point lead. However, Georgetown would claw their way back and tie the score at 14-14. Shannon's kills would make it 15-14, and sent Marianne Cassiano to the serving line. She guided them to a two-point lead, but back came Georgetown. Both teams battled back and forth for points until late in the set when the Lady Tigers were able to pull away and secured a 25-22 victory to capture the set and the match, 3-1. Leading the way in this set for the Lady Tigers was Barfield with 3 kills and 3 blocks. In this set there were 11 score ties and 2 lead changes. 

The story in this match was the serving game. Georgetown scored 7 aces on the Lady Tigers but missed 12 serves. The Lady Tigers scored 7 aces and limited their service errors to 5 and forced Georgetown into 7 reception errors. That strong and aggressive serving kept Georgetown out of system and unable to produce any kind of offensive consistency. Leading the way for the Lady Tigers on offense was Shannon with 15 kills, Cierra Merrick with 10 kills, and Paige Merrick with 34 assists. Andrea Laboy secured 16 digs on defense. 

Campbellsville University improves their record to 18-5 and 12-2 MSC and will be at home on Saturday, Nov. 5th at 2 PM for their season finale.
