Tigers cap off Lou Cunningham Classic with another blowout victory

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers came out in the finale of the Lou Cunningham Classic against The University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in Saint Louis (UHSP). The Tigers finished their weekend with another convincing blowout besting the Eutectics by 36 points.

The Tigers came out in the first five minutes, quickly firing shots and going up 12-0. Campbellsville carried over the unselfish team basketball they were already playing in their last outing. At this point in the game, four players had already scored. The Tigers continued their unbridled hustle and benevolent team play through the first half building their lead to 23 points just over halfway through the half. The Tigers led UHSP with a massive margin of 30-7. The halftime buzzer sounded with Campbellsville in the driver's seat holding a 42-18 lead over UHSP. 

The Tigers did not allow a single two-point field goal to go through the net in the first half, putting a swarming defensive effort on full display. Campbellsville forced ten turnovers in the first half and only allowed UHSP to make 5 of 27 from the field (18.5%). The Tigers created great offense from their tenacious defense scoring 16 points off of turnovers. Leading the way for the Tigers was point guard Jace Wallace with seven points and two assists, followed closely by Malachi De Sousa, Jarius Key, and Jay Milburn with six points of their own.

The second half began with a successful offensive attack from the Tigers, who jumped to a 20-8 run. The Tigers also caused a quick three turnovers in the first five minutes, leading to a resounding 59-26 lead. With ten minutes left in the game, the Tigers continued to hold their advantage with a 64-33 point lead over UHSP. The Tigers finished things out, winning the game 82-46. 

Campbellsville won on the back of a great defensive game plan holding UHSP to just 23% shooting from the field and causing 20 turnovers. Additionally, Campbellsville showcased persistent hustle play on the backboard snagging 44 total boards. The Tigers' all-around team basketball play was evident from their 23 assists as a unit.
