Overtime heartbreaker ends Men’s Soccer MSC postseason run

Box Score WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – Campbellsville traveled down south for the Mid-South Conference Quarterfinals on Friday night. Campbellsville dropped the contest 2-1 to University of the Cumberlands.
 
This match would start just like most matches do, with both teams trading quick attacks with minimal opportunities. In the 5th minute, CU couldn't clear the line and the Patriots would whiz one past the right post. The half continued at a controlling pace for the Patriots. UC would continue to swing in crosses from the outside but couldn't find the first goal.
 
Campbellsville had mustered one shot in the first 25 minutes. The Tigers would push into the offensive third and win a corner. An argued ball would go out of play and Campbellsville would be given another set piece from the corner. Samuel Londono would inswing a corner from the nearside and connect with Diego Chainho to take the 1-0 lead. 
 
The rest of the period, the Patriots would continue to get great opportunities, but couldn't connect on frame. They would finish out the half with eight shots. Campbellsville was selective in their attacks, really focusing on when to push and when to stay in position. CU tallied four shots, placing two on frame. 
 
The Patriots would come out pressing and create opportunities from the slot positions. In the 55th minute, UC would place its first shot goal, saved by the outstretched arms of Christian Hauge. They found some success in a few passes inside before swinging a ball in from the right side and finding the leveling goal in the 63rdminute of play.  
 
Londono would find a shot before another pressing attack from Cumberlands. UC started with a corner and within a few minutes, they had two shots near the frame, one ringing the cross bar. 
 
Both teams would use the full 90 minutes, trying to find the game winner. Neither team could find it and we would have our first overtime contest of the season. The Patriots started out in a pressing manner once again and it paid dividends. In the 95th minute, UC would take the 2-1 lead.
 
In the 105th, Hauge would make another athletic save, back post from a free kick. Campbellsville would have one final chance in the 108th minute from a corner. The ball would bounce around before a Campbellsville foul was committed. University of the Cumberlands would walk out victorious and advance into the MSC Semifinals. 
 
Campbellsville will now turn its attention to the NCCAA tournament, hoping to make another trip to Kissimmee, Florida.
