WILLIASMBURG, KY – Tigers close out the season on the road with a 35-21 loss at University of the Cumberlands.
The Tigers showed early grit in the first half. Campbellsville fell to an early 14-0 deficit in the first quarter. The Tigers gave up an interception early in the first quarter which led to the early 7-0 score only 36 seconds into the game.
Jamar Nuby had a 33-yard catch from quarterback Stevie Orr to put the Patriots up after one quarter. Campbellsville would go on to fight back in the second quarter.
Jager Gillis would score both of the Tigers touchdowns in the quarter. The first touchdown came on a one-yard run with 6:21 left to go in the quarter. Gillis would get his second touchdown run of the day with a two-yard run going into the locker room.
To begin the second half, the Patriots came out firing early. Martize Smith had a two-yard run only a minute into the quarter. They would soon double their lead after a two play 50-yard drive that made the score 28-14. Cumberlands would go on to score once more in the fourth quarter.
Campbellsville had their final touchdown of the day come in the fourth quarter. Gillis had a 19-yard pass to
Timothy Pope with 8:54 left to go in the quarter. Gillis finished the day with 322 passing yards, and one touchdown while running in two for himself. Jager threw 27-35 on the day.
Gillis' top targets of the day were
Patrick Oden and
Luke Sheperson. Oden had nine receptions for 148 yards while Sheperson also nine catches for 101 yards. On the defensive side of the ball,
Zmari Bell led the way with eight tackles.
Nigel Nerese had seven tackles, and one sack which results in a seven yard loss for the Patriots.
The Tigers finish out the 2022 season with an overall record of 2-8.
