LOUISVILLE, KY – Distance squad earns multiple top ten finishes to lead the Tigers in the season opener at the Commonwealth College Opener on Saturday.
Aiden Tucker was the solo Tiger to earn a victory on the day. Tucker won the 800m run with a time of 2:01.92. Tucker had a group of Tigers close behind him.
Alex Steen placed 4th in the event at 2:04.96,
Ben Graf placed 5th with his time of 2:06.27,
Nolan Flispart was 6th coming in at 2:08.85,
Brandon Irvin was 7th in 2:09.24, Reese Taylor rounded out the group in 10th while crossing the finish line in 2:19.86.
In the 3,000m run,
Shawn Little led the way for Campbellsville. Little was four seconds off the school record in his effort of 8:47.86 in his season debut, placing 5th overall. After earning NCCAA All-American honors in cross country,
Dakota Brady made his season debut and placed 7th in the 3,000m run with a time of 8:59.81. NAIA cross country qualifier
Lukas Smithson placed 9th in the 3,000m with a time of 9:32.64, while
Samuel Bennett was 10th in 9:42.50.
In the mile, Brady turned over the wheels with his 8th place time of 4:32.30. Smithson wasn't far behind his fellow sophomore, placing 10th in the event at 4:38.64.
Ishan Cooper made a big career debut in the 60m hurdle finals. Cooper was the runner-up in the event at 8.67, which is .29 seconds off an NAIA B standard.
Greg Carr was 5th in the 60m hurdles at 8.82, and
Zahnte' Brown was 7th, crossing the finish line in 9.74.
Four athletes earned top ten finishes in the 400m dash.
Maikyah Stowe led the way with a PR of 50.47 and earned the bronze medal in the event, placing 3rd.
Noah Rogers was close behind Stowe, placing 6th in 52.31. Zachary Phelps and Kobie Neal rounded out the group. Phelps was 7th overall in 52.38, while Neal was 10th and finished in 53.35.
The 200m dash saw four more Campbellsville athletes earn their way to top-ten finishes for the team.
Elijah Moore was 5th in 22.57, which is .11 off an indoor PR.
Darionta Bell was seventh in the event, running a time of 22.76.
Chance Lucas and
Jackson Harrell finished back-to-back in 8th and 9th. Lucas was 8th in 22.81, while Harrell was 9th in 22.83.
Finishing off the track events, Bell, Moore, Rogers, and Stowe placed 8th in the 4x400m relay. Their time of 3:29.43 sits three seconds behind the school record from last season of 3:26.86.
Matthew Mays led the Tigers in field events. Mays was 5th in the triple jump with a mark of 13.87m. Harrell placed 10th in the triple jump with his mark of 13.11m. In the long jump, Carr was 7th overall with a distance of 6.64m.
Darien Wilson was 9th overall in the long jump in 6.46m.
Blake Skaggs rounded out the top ten finishes in the jumps with a 9th-place finish in the pole vault with a height of 3.15m.
Seth Cartwright was the lone Tiger to earn a top-ten finish in the shot put on Saturday. Cartwright placed 8th overall with his mark of 13.44m.
The Tigers will return to the track next Saturday, December 10th, when they host the Tiger Paw Holiday Invitational. That event will be held in Louisville, KY, at the Norton Healthcare Sport and Learning Center.
