CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #4 Lady Tiger basketball team brought on Shawnee State University at Powell Athletic Center Thursday evening. Campbellsville beat the Bears 80-54.
To begin the match, the Bears put up a quick layup due to a Campbellsville turnover. The Lady Tigers responded with five points of their own. Both teams displayed physicality for the ball, diving and tying up in several instances. Shawnee State took the upper hand at 17-15 with a shot from the arc but the Lady Tigers dismissed their lead with a Kaitlyn Wilks basket in the paint.
Campbellsville was first to score in the second quarter as
Ashlee McGeorge appeared at the free-throw line. The Lady Tigers had to work to maintain the Bears' deficit, but then boosted it to eight as
Faith Lake collected a three-point basket.
Maddy Boyle solidified Campbellsville's largest lead of the game so far (at 11 points) with a layup. The Lady Tigers only allowed five points within the quarter making it their lowest points allowed in a quarter this season.
At the half, the Lady Tigers had forced Shawnee into 12 turnovers and had collected 13 points as a result. Campbellsville was shooting at 32.4 percent which stood only three percent above the Bears. Wilks had accumulated 11 points and four rebounds up to that point. McGeorge had amassed five rebounds and
Bailey Pedigo followed with four.
McGeorge started the third quarter with a layup within the first nine seconds of play. The lead blew open as McGeorge and
Lauren Lee appeared at the charity stripe. McGeorge's following layup propelled the lead to 20 points with a tough layup. As the third quarter dwindled down, Campbellsville had grown their shooting up to a 40.8 field goal percentage.
The final quarter opened with back-to-back layups delivered from McGeorge. Pedigo drove to the paint for a layup to establish a seven-point run for the Lady Tigers. The Bears responded with a couple of baskets to decrease the trail.
Sarah Sutton went on a solo seven-point run to aid in the Lady Tigers' advantage. Shawnee couldn't seem to knock down the deficit enough and Campbellsville defeated Shawnee State 80-54.
By the game's end, Campbellsville had continued to push the Bears into more turnovers. Shawnee had acquired 22 turnovers leading the Lady Tigers to score 25 points in return. Campbellsville created more shooting opportunities for themselves as they accumulated 22 assists compared to the Bear's 12. McGeorge finished the night with a double-double (20 points and 10 rebounds). Wilks tallied 15 points and five rebounds, Sutton collected 13 points and five rebounds, and Pedigo tallied six rebounds.
Campbellsville will host their final match of the regular season this Saturday. If Campbellsville is victorious over their next foe, they will earn the #1 seed in the MSC tournament. The Lady Tigers will face-off against #3 Thomas More University in hopes to close the regular season with a win.
