LOUISVILLE, KY – The Tigers are sitting in third after day one of the Mid-South Conference Championships Friday evening.
Kilan Macklin was the main story of the day for the Tigers. Macklin was able to knock off one of the greats in Garland Webb off the indoor school record list. Macklin placed runner-up in the long jump with the new school record mark of 7.06m. His jump came on his second jump of the day. Webb's previous school record was set at 6.99m.
CamRon Hamby and
David Young were able to earn key points in the long jump as well. Hamby placed fourth with a mark of 6.83m while Young was fifth at 6.72m.
Macklin finished off his day in the high jump earning one point placing eighth with a height of 1.76m.
Elijah Moore will see Saturday action after qualifying for final in the 60m dash. Moore is the fourth fastest athlete in the final heat for Saturday with his time of 7.01.
Sam Kiser saw his first points of the meet come from the 600m run with his seventh place performance time of 1:22.64 which lowers his previous school record set back in the 2018-19 school year of 1:23.16.
Six points came out of the men's 5,000m run Friday evening.
Shawn Little led the way placing fifth in the race with a time of 15:37.53.
Dakota Brady wasn't far behind placing seventh in the race at 15:46.05.
In the distance medley relay the Tigers were able to earn their first bronze medal on the track Friday evening.
Aiden Tucker,
Alexander Steen,
Lukas Smithson, and
Barrye Trotter crossed the line in 10:40.40.
Seth Cartwright earned three points in the men's shot put. Cartwright placed sixth overall with his throw of 13.69m.
The Tigers have found themselves in contention for the Mid-South Conference crown just 6.5 points out of first place.
Day two of the Mid-South Conference Championships resumes Saturday February 19
th in Louisville, KY. Events will begin at 11 AM.
