COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Campbellsville Lady Tiger softball team traveled to Columbia, Kentucky to take on Lindsey Wilson College in the Battle of Highway 55 on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Tigers won with a run-rule in game one but came up one-run short in game two.
Game One: Campbellsville 16, Lindsey Wilson 8
Lexi Miller didn't wait around to get things started for the Tigers. Miller sent a pitch out to left field for the first hit of the ball game and landed herself a double. Unfortunately, Miller was left stranded on base. In the bottom of the first inning, Lindsey Wilson sent a pitch from
Katy Chadwell over the fence with a runner on base, scoring the first two runs of the ball game.
During the second inning, Lindsey Wilson sent another runner around the diamond and took a three-run lead over the Lady Tigers. With two outs and the bases loaded,
Payton Blades made the final out of the inning and stopped the Raiders from sending more runners across the plate. In the third inning,
Bailey Richardson landed herself a single after sending a pitch to right field.
Emily Reynolds came in to pinch run for Richardson.
Ashby Murt laid down a sacrifice bunt and advanced Reynolds into scoring position.
Sam McKee also laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Reynolds to third base. Miller sent one over the fence for a two-run home run. Subsequently,
Ryley Whitney sent a pitch over the center field fence for back-to-back home runs. The Lady Tigers weren't done, however.
Riley Hurst also sent a pitch over the center field fence for three straight home runs. This gave the Lady Tigers a one-run lead over the Raiders, 4-3.
In the fifth inning, Murt doubled to reach base. McKee took a base off a single and advanced Murt into scoring position. Miller sent a pitch to left field to score Murt and move McKee to second base. This gave the Lady Tigers a one-run lead. With no outs in the inning, Whitney reached base via walk to load the bases.
Paityn Pruitt came in to pinch run for Whitney. Hurst hit a sacrifice fly ball to center field and scored McKee. Blades was also walked and the Lady Tigers had the bases loaded again.
Taylor Windell came in to pinch run for Blades.
Ryleigh Oldham hit a single to score Miller and Pruitt and then Richardson sent a pitch over the fence for a three-run home run. That brought the Lady Tigers a seven-run lead over the Raiders. That near run-rule margin wouldn't last long though as the Raiders cut the Lady Tigers' lead to just three-runs in the bottom of the inning.
During the sixth frame, McKee landed herself on base after hitting a single. McKee advanced to third after a sacrifice hit from Miller. Hurst reached base after an error from the infield and scored McKee which would be the first of many runs for Campbellsville. Windell singled to right field and advanced Hurst to third base.
Keely Bowling reached base via walk to load the bases. Oldham also was given free bases via walk and scored Hurst. Richardson sent a pitch to left field, good enough for a double and scoring Windell, Bowling, and Oldham. The Lady Tigers took a 16-8 lead over the Raiders to win game one.
The Lady Tigers had 13 hits with four of those being home runs. Miller and Richardson both had three hits each. Chadwell threw 131 pitches with a .580 strike percentage.
Game Two: Campbellsville 11, Lindsey Wilson 12
Much like the first game, Miller didn't wait around to start things off for the Lady Tigers. Miller sent a pitch over the left field fence to give the Lady Tigers an early lead. Whitney did exactly the same just over the right field fence for back-to-back home runs. Blades reached base after being hit by a pitch. Blades stole second on a wild pitch but was left stranded. In the bottom of the first inning, two Raiders were hit by pitches to reach base. With the bases loaded, the Raiders sent a runner across the plate after a wild pitch. They sent two more runners around the bases to take a one-run lead over the Lady Tigers.
In the third inning, Miller, Whitney, and Hurst reached base via walk to load the bases. Reynolds came in to pinch run for Whitney. Blades singled to right field and sent Miller in to tie the ball game. Bowling reached base after being hit by a pitch. Oldham singled to the pitcher and scored Hurst. The Lady Tigers secured a one-run lead over the Raiders. McKee doubled to center field to start the top of the fourth inning. Hurst singled to score McKee and send a walked Whitney into scoring position. Blades sent a pitch to left field to score both Whitney and Hurst. The Lady Tigers took a 7-3 lead over the Raiders. The Raiders offense would respond as they cut the Lady Tigers' lead to just two runs after sending two runners across the plate.
To begin the fifth inning, Oldham reached base after an infield error. As the inning proceeded, the Lady Tigers capitalized on consistent base touches as well as a miscommunication from the Raiders to score Knowles and move Murt to third. McKee singled to land herself on base and score Murt. Hurst reached base on a fielder's choice and advanced McKee to third. At that point, the Lady Tigers extended their lead to five runs over the Raiders.
Courtney Patterson came in to relieve Karson Wiliams in the circle after the Raiders added two more runs to the scoreboard in their share of the frame.
Oldham singled to reach base to start the sixth inning. Richardson reached base on an infield error and advanced Oldham into scoring position. The Raiders capitalized on a double play to retire Richardson and Murt to get out of the top half of the inning. In the bottom of the sixth inning, an error by the Lady Tigers' defense allowed two more runners to make their way around the base and cut the Lady Tigers' lead to just one run. During the seventh inning, McKee doubled to land herself on base. Miller singled and brought McKee across the plate. Whitney reached base via walk and Windell came in to pinch run. Hurst reached base on a fielder's choice and advanced Windell to second. Also, Bowling was given free bases after being hit by a pitch and advanced Windell and Hurst into scoring position. Windell, Hurst, and Bowling were left stranded on base. In the bottom half of the seventh inning, the Raiders were able to load the bases after collecting full counts from the mound. The levee broke when the Raiders landed a double and scored two more runs. The Lady Tigers fell to the Raiders, 12-11.
The Lady Tigers had 13 hits, three belonging to McKee. Williams and Patterson had a combined total of 185 pitches with a .578 strike percentage.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action tomorrow to finish the four-game series against Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky. The games are set to begin at 3 p.m. ET and 5 p.m. ET.
