CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers hosted Bethel Friday afternoon. The game was changed to a double header due to the weather coming on Saturday. Campbellsville won the first game and lost the second.
Game One: Campbellsville 9, Bethel 2
The first inning started with
Brady Tedesco on the mound. He struck out the first batter and the second out came from a batter's interference. A few of Bethel's batters made it on base but none saw home plate before their third out. The Tigers started their offense with their bats hot and
Jeremiah Lebron had a two-run RBI homerun to put Campbellsville on the board.
Cameron Castaneda hit a sac fly out to right field and allowed
Noah Amenta to cross home. The Tigers had an early three to nothing lead over the Wildcats.
In the second inning Campbellsville held Bethel to no hits and no runs. The Tigers kept up their momentum at bat and had four hits and four runs. As
Kevin Whitaker stood on the base pads,
Jorge Gonzalez sent a ball flying over the fence through center field. The hit resulted in a double RBI for Gonzalez. A couple more Tigers made it on the bases and then Amenta singled to right field. The Wildcats couldn't control the ball which brought home two more Tigers to make the score 7-0 going into the third inning.
The third and fourth innings didn't contain a lot of action for both teams. The teams were scoreless through the fourth inning and the game remained at 7-1 with a Tiger lead. In the fifth inning, Zach Bromstead came in to pitch for the Tigers which led Bethel to score their first run off a homerun, but he was the only Wildcat to come across the plate. Bethel scored their second run in the top of the fifth inning. After a few batters the Tigers changed pitchers and
Chad McCann was on the mound. The Tigers remained scoreless through the fifth but still had the lead 7-2 going into the sixth inning.
Logan Verble and Lebron hit the gap in left field in back-to-back at bats in the bottom of the sixth. Verble had an RBI which brought
Jacob White across home plate. Lebron followed with an RBI which brought Verble home and the Tigers took a 9-2 lead. Campbellsville got three quick outs in the top of the seventh and won the first game.
The Tigers saw three pitchers on the mound who pitched a .655 strike percentage compared to the Wildcat's .724 strike percentage. McCann finished out the game and only allowed one run by Bethel.
Game Two: Campbellsville 3, Bethel 16
The second game began with
Zion Payne on the mound for the Tigers. Bethel started off with their bats hot and had three hits and three runs in their first time at the plate. The Tigers looked to match Bethel's at bat in the bottom of the first as Verble led off the lineup. Campbellsville couldn't get the sticks going this inning and only had one hit.
Bethel added another run in the second inning as the Tigers remained scoreless although they had two hits. In the top of the third,
Caleb Thompson was on the mound for Campbellsville. Thompson held the Wildcats to no hits and no runs as the Tigers looked to get their bats going. Campbellsville couldn't convert any of their at bats into runs and remained scoreless through three innings.
In the top of the fourth inning, Bethel tallied two more runs before the Tigers got their first out. Bethel scored one more run to make the score 8-0 before Campbellsville got out of the field. In the bottom of the fourth, Campbellsville got some hits but none of the batters saw home plate.
To start the fifth inning,
Kam Robertson came in to relieve Thompson at the pitch. Campbellsville made other changes in the field in hopes of holding Bethel at eight runs. The Tigers were unable to stop the Wildcat's hot bats as they scored six more runs, one of them being a triple RBI homerun. Still in the top of the fifth inning, the Tigers made another pitching change as
Joseph Ranford came to the mound. In the bottom of the fifth,
Kale Seitz got the bats going for Campbellsville. He hit an in the park homerun to put the Tigers on the board.
In the sixth inning, Bethel scored two more runs to take a 16-1 lead over the Campbellsville. In the top of the seventh inning,
Mason Lee was brought to the mound to throw. Lee held the Wildcats to no runs as he struck out the batter for the third out. In the bottom of the seventh, the Tigers looked to avoid the run rule which meant they needed to score six runs to bring them within nine runs of Bethel.
Sam Fagerness's single to centerfield resulted in a double RBI which brought White and Verble across home. There was two outs for Bethel but the Tigers only needed four more runs to take the game into nine innings. The Tigers couldn't score the runs they needed and were run ruled 16-3 after seven innings.
The Tigers saw five pitchers on the mound this game and together they threw a .606 strike percentage compared to Bethel's .667 strike percentage. Campbellsville struggled to get across home plate as they had nine hits on the game but only three runs.
The Tigers will be back in action Tuesday, March 15
th and will face University of Rio Grande. The game will be at H.I.G Field starting at 1:30 p.m. ET.
