LEXINGTON, KY – High winds and cold conditions made for more strategic competition for the Tigers at their outdoor season opener at the Transylvania University for the Pioneer Invite over the weekend.
Campbellsville started off Friday night in the 10,000m run collecting 13 points.
Shawn Little led the group with his fourth-place finish of 33:13.75. Making their debut at the 10K distance was
Dakota Brady was behind Little in fifth place running a 34:12.87 and
Samuel Bennett in sixth place at 34:26.48.
Ian McAninch rounded out the scoring in eighth at 36:13.90.
Jarrett Crawford was close to earning his first win of the season in the 3,000m steeplechase. Crawford was on the heels of Georgetown College's Elijah Walters finishing two seconds behind in 10:47.75.
The first outdoor win of the season came in the 4x100m relay.
Jackson Harrell,
Brevon Whitney,
Elijah Moore, and
Jaron Hamby won the relay with a time of 43.39.
Zahnte' Brown,
Donavon Matthews, and
Cainan Daniels battled the high head win in the 110m hurdles. Brown finished in fourth with a -3.8 wind in his heat. Matthews was fifth overall with a -4.5 wind and Daniels was sixth in the same heat as Matthews with the wind at -4.5.
Aiden Tucker doubled up on the day earning 11 points on the day. In the 1500m run Tucker placed fourth at 4:18.17 and in the 800m he bumped up one place to third and ran 2:02.96.
Barrye Trotter stayed at the 400m distance on Saturday. In the open 400m run Trotter placed seventh overall with a time of 54.07 while in the 400m hurdles he was the runner-up at 1:03.78. Greg Carr won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.75. Hamby was just behind Trotter in the 400m with his time of 54.46.
William Riley and
Zahnte' Brown were the athletes who earned points in the 400m hurdles. Riley finished sixth at 1:10.65 while Brown was seventh at 1:14.22.
Chance Lucas fought the -3.5 wind in the 100m dash running a 11.82 and earned the silver medal position.
In the throws,
Seth Cartwright earned two points in the shot put. Cartwright threw for a mark of 12.70m placing seventh.
Jonah Oliver was fifth overall in the discus with his mark of 35.45m.
Blake Skaggs and
Cainan Daniels were the lone Campbellsville athletes in the pole vault. Daniels was the runner-up at 3.00m clearing on his first attempt. Skaggs earned the bronze with a height of 2.85m and also clearing on his first attempt.
Jackson Harrell was the runner-up and earned eight points in the long jump. Harrell jumped a distance of 6.33m.
Chance Lucas also jumped a mark of 6.33m and placed third in the event.
Corey Smith and
CamRon Hamby rounded out the scoring for the Tigers. Smith earned the key 10 points and won the triple jump with his mark of 12.53m while Hamby was third overall in the event at 12.10m.
Campbellsville will be back on the road Saturday March 26
th when they travel to Hanover College.
