Tiger face-off ends with Georgetown victory

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville volleyball was in the battle of the Tigers Tuesday night in Gosser Gymnasium. Despite taking the first set, the Tigers fell to Georgetown College 3-1.

Set one demonstrated the rivalry between both talented squads at the outset. Separated by just 74 miles, the Mid-South Conference matchup was electric. GC would jump out to a quick 4-1 lead fueled by a few service aces. Quickly CU would make a run of their own, pulling the score to 5-4. The two teams would volley back and forth point for point, with intensity growing the entire set. With the score sitting at 16 apiece, Campbellsville used a 3-0 run behind an Andres Laboy ace and an Eric Heller block to take the lead. Georgetown would claw back and tie the set at 24. Gosser exploded as Ho Yin Leung and Jakob Zum Kolk capped off the 26-24 first set. The Campbellsville Tigers would hit .346 with 14 kills.

CU rode the momentum firing off a 6-2 run in frame two. The Tigers of Georgetown once again didn't back down and would brought the set to a tie at 12. This was all in the middle of a GC 7-2 run, forcing a timeout from Campbellsville. Georgetown would eventually halt a Campbellsville comeback with a 25-23 finish.

This time it was Georgetown riding high after the set victory, pushing out to a 5-2 advantage. Leung would smash home a pair of kills and Jose Viera Cerame would find the court with an ace. With the match knotted at six, the two would trade blows for the remainder of set three. With both clubs sitting at 17, GC would end it on a 8-5 roll. Georgetown was on fire the entire set hitting .571, good for 14-21 on total attacks.

Set four brought the same energy, battles, and style of gameplay. It would feature eight different lead changes and be tied on seven different occasions. Another similarity would be a late Georgetown run to secure another set, this one being a 12-4 stint to end the match.

Campbellsville would finish with 43 assists, 15 service aces, and 33 digs. Offensively, Ho Yin Leung would hammer home 14, as Drew Sims and Bastian Korreck both ended with nine kills. Jason Camacho tallied 36 assists and Jay Montalvo dug up 13 attacks.

The Tigers get back in action this week with a pair of games at the Gosser Gymnasium. CU welcomes in Thomas More on Friday night at 7 p.m. ET and Bluefield College on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.
