Unstoppable offense fuels Lady Tigers to two massive wins over Pikeville

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Lady Tigers collected hit after hit in a double-header against Pikeville Friday afternoon. Campbellsville emerged victorious with two double-digit finishes: 17-0 and 25-1.

Game one: Campbellsville: 17, Pikeville 0

The first hit of the game was a small bunt to center field which was quickly sent to first base. The Lady Tigers would allow only one hit to reach first base before Katy Chadwell quickly struck out two other Bears. At the bottom of the first, Lexi Miller walked to first before stealing second after a low ball pitched to Riley Whitney. Peyton Blades then doubled on a low ground ball past second base to allow Miller to score the first run of the game and put two Lady Tigers in scoring position. The Tigers would fail to score one more run after Sam McKee hit a low ball to short stop, ending the first inning up 1-0.

The top of the second went by quickly as Chadwell struck out the first two Bears at bat. The last batter for the Bears hit a fly ball up to right field and was caught, ending the top of the second. Ryleigh Oldham would start the bottom of the second strong hitting a low ball to third base which was dropped as she safely got to first base. Keely Bowling would be struck out, but she allowed Oldham to steal second in the process. Riley Hurst would quickly hit a low ball to short stop on the first pitch, ending the second inning.

At the top of the third the Bears would hit two quick balls to Sam McKee and Hadlee Carter, which were easy outs for the Tigers. The top of the third would end as the Bears hit a liner to Lexi Miller who caught it with ease. Miller would go to start on home plate for the Tigers at the bottom of the third with a walk to first. Ryley Whitney would then hit a bomb to right field to score a two-run home run, putting the tigers up 3-0. Payton Blades smacked a ball up the middle to get on first, then Taylor Windell hit a low ball to left field putting two tigers on base. Ryleigh Oldham would send a ball to left field, bringing Blades and Windell home making the score 5-0 with one out in the bottom of the third. Riley Hurst had an RBI single to bring the score to 6-0 which was then followed by Lexi Miller adding to the score hitting a two RBI double, making the score 8-0. Whitney would walk to first, giving the Lady Tigers first and second with runners on. Miller would score from second as Blade would hit a long shot down over second base. Windell kept it going hitting a two-run homerun to make the score 12-0. Oldham sent a single to right field to allow Sam McKee to score after a hit from her, then Madison Davis would follow that up quickly with another two-run home run to make the score 15-0 before the inning ended.

Another top of an inning would go fast as two Bears would send quick pop balls right to outfielders, then struck out the hitter at home plate. Riley Hurst would start the bottom of the fourth with a line down the middle for an easy double, just inches away from a home run. Hurst advanced to third as Young grounded out to short stop. Richardson then had a two-run home run sending Hurst home to make the score 17-0. The Lady Tigers would hit a ball to shortstop and a couple quick throws by the Bears would be a double play to end the fourth.

Allison Bush would sub in at the pitcher's plate for the top of the fifth. She would hit the first Bear's hitter and walk to first before being relieved from the mound due to injury. Chadwell would re-enter and, after an infield single, the Bears were confused running between bases and were tagged out at second base. The game would end when a popped-up ball was snagged to Chadwell, run ruling the Bears 17-0.

The Bears were allowed only two hits the entire contest as Chadwell struck out three batters and the Lady Tiger defense shored up any balls that were in play. On their side of the innings, Windell and Oldham led with three RBIs each while five other Lady Tigers had two each just behind them (Whitney, Richardson, Davis, Blades, and Miller).

Game two: Campbellsville 25, Pikeville 1

The Lady Tigers started the second game only allowing one hit for the Bears during the top of the first. The Lady Tigers would start strong as Riley Hurst hit a double to begin the bottom of the first. Lexi Miller then sent a ball down right center field which was dropped by the outfielder giving her an RBI to open up scoring 1-0. Ryley Whitney sent a ball to left center field to get an easy first base before stealing second and third after a ball tipped off of Payton Blades at the plate. Blades then launched a high ball into left center field which was dropped and allowed Payton a good first base run and brought Miller home making the score 2-0. Taylor Windell was hit by a pitch behind her and allowed runners to advance to second and third. On a full count, the pitcher had a ball slip off her hand and tipped off of Windell. Whitney stole home off of the pitch to make it 3-0. Sam McKee, with Lady Tigers on second and third, sent a big drive over to left center field for a three-run home run to make the score 6-0. Madison Davis doubled to help set up a Hurst two-run homer to set the score to 8-0 to end the first inning.

The Lady Tigers would make easy work of the Bears at the top of the second giving them little room to breathe before their ensuing onslaught of runs and hits. The Bears had a pop-up fly ball, a low hit to third, and a line drive to center for a quick ending to the top of the second. Windell would start the bottom of the second with a low drive down the center, splitting outfielders and getting a double. Oldham would follow by sending a single down the left field line to allow Windell to score and setting up runners for Davis. Davis walked, and Hadlee Carter singled up the middle snagging two RBI's and making the score 11-0. Hurst would then single to third base, loading the bases. Bailey Richardson reached first by an error by the right fielder allowing Carter to score. Blades would then single through the left side allowing Hurst and Carter to run to home making the score 14-0. Windell and Sam McKee would both double over center field to get three runs collectively. Ryleigh Oldham then hit a two-run home run to advance the score to 19-0, followed up by a RBI double by Hurst, and Paityn Pruitt getting two RBI's off of a double to make the score 22-0. The long inning would end after Bowling sniped a two-run home run to end the inning 24-0.

The third inning ended quickly for both teams as both teams struck out swinging and had some pop-ups and line balls caught.

The top of the fourth wrapped up expeditiously again with the Bears having two outs before having runners on first and second. The Bears would eventually strike out swinging to go into the bottom of the fourth. Pruitt walked and advanced Hurst to second before Kaeleigh Tuck singled up the middle sending Hurst to home plate and setting the score to 25-0. The Lady Tigers would eventually strike out to end the fourth inning.

The top of the fifth was the last inning. Just before the last out, The Bears scored an unearned run after an error by center field. The game would end shortly after that due to run rule, 25-1. Campbellsville had 25 runs on 26 hits and 24 RBIs. Williams struck three batters out and both pitchers allowed just four hits on in the latter game of the double-header.

The Lady Tiger's next game is at home field double header against University of Pikeville again tomorrow, Saturday March 26th at 12 p.m. ET.
