Lady Tigers grab two W's over Thomas More

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The (RV) Lady Tiger softball team hosted the Thomas More Saints at Hord Softball Field Friday afternoon. Campbellsville put away Thomas More in both contests with run rule scores.

Game one: Campbellsville 9, Thomas More 0

To begin the contest, Katy Chadwell ousted the first batter with a backwards K. The next two Saint batters were shut down with plays made by Chadwell and Keely Bowling. At the plate, Lexi Miller found herself on first after her single to left field. With consecutive walks from Ryley Whitney and Madison Davis, Sam McKee was selective in her pitches and was sent walking. McKee's trot to first earned an RBI as Miller walked in. Ryleigh Oldham and Bowling were hit by pitches which earned another two RBIs for the Lady Tigers. Campbellsville finished the inning with a three-run lead.

Chadwell and the Lady Tiger defense put another three Thomas More batters down. On offense, Miller was first step on the bases with a walk. Although she was caught stealing, Whitney fashioned herself a walk as well. However, the Lady Tigers weren't able to aid their score.

The Saints received their first hit of the competition with a ball to left field, but the Lady Tigers allowed no more hits as they returned to offense. Campbellsville was unsuccessful in their mission to add more runs.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Campbellsville worked hard to get runners to score. After Davis walked, McKee propelled her to second with a sacrifice bunt. Oldham's fly ball to the green gave Davis time to advance to third base. However, scoring was absent going into the sixth inning.

The Saints cultivated a bunt into a hit, but the Lady Tigers were persistent in shutting them down. Taylor Windell came into pinch hit for Carter. On Windell's second pitch, she sent the ball to the left center fence to earn a double. Windell dove into third on a passed ball and Hurst advanced to second from her walk. Miller's fly ball allowed Windell to reach home. With one out, Whitney's fly ball batted in Hurst but cost a second out. Blades composed a solo trip around the bases as her shot fell over the left center fence. Davis and McKee loaded up first and second base. Oldham ripped one over the center field wall to solidify the run rule score over the Saints.

Miller, Davis, and Windell both finished batting at 1.000 after game one. Oldham finished with a .500 and led the team with four RBIs. Chadwell finished the competition with a .667 strike percentage out of her 84 thrown pitches.

Game two: Campbellsville 11, Thomas More 3

Thomas More punched out first as they scored one run on the Lady Tigers. Hurst went up to the plate on a mission as her at bat resulted in solo homerun. Miller was granted a walk and then pushed herself to second bases on a steal. Whitney followed behind her teammate with a fly ball to center field that allowed Miller to get to third. Blades' single down the right field line scored Miller to put the Lady Tigers one above the Saints. McKee's single batted in Blades and Campbellsville stood 3-1 over the Saints. Ashby Murt was hit by pitch in the box which earned her an RBI as Davis trotted across the plate.

Karson Williams only allowed one hit from Thomas More before shutting down the next three batters with a strikeout and ground outs. Miller started the bottom of the second inning with a double into left field. Whitney and Miller sat on first and second when Davis homered for a three-run RBI. Davis's hit busted open the Lady Tigers' lead to 7-1.

The action in the third and fourth inning was slim with no advances for either team. Thomas More loaded the bases on first and second and a single to left center scored a Saint runner. The deficit that Thomas More suffered decreased to four runs with another single to the left side. Williams finished the Saints' run as she attacked the zone for a three-pitch strikeout. In the latter half of the inning, Campbellsville did not get ahead any further.

Two walks placed Lady Tiger runners on first and second. Pinch runners Journey Knowles and Emily Reynolds replaced Whitney and Davis. Another walk for Windell loaded the bases as McKee approached the plate. McKee grounded out to second base, but Knowles reached home to increase Campbellsville's lead. Murt's triple finished the competition as she cleared the bases with a triple for the run rule score.

Davis and Oldham finished batting .667 at the plate. Davis collected three RBIs and Murt tallied four RBIs. Williams ended her time in the circle with a .622 strike percentage.

The Lady Tigers return to the field Saturday afternoon for two additional match-ups against the Saints. The double-header is set to begin at 12 p.m. ET and will be at Hord Softball field.
