Campbellsville moves past Shawnee and on to the MSC final site

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Campbellsville Baseball Team hosted Shawnee State University on Thursday in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament. The Tigers defeated the Bears of Shawnee State University in both games. The Tigers will advance to the MSC Tournament in Bowling Green, Kentucky on Thursday, May 5th through May 8th.
 
Game one: Campbellsville 9, Shawnee State 2 
 
In his first inning of work, Brady Tedesco picked up his first and second strike out of the ball game. Samio Uze led things off for the Tigers with a single to the right side. Jacob White singled to left field and scored Uze. On the throw, White advanced to second base. Eddy Arteaga doubled to right field and sent White home. Alex Castaneda came in to pinch run for Arteaga but was left on base. The Tigers took a two-run lead over the Bears. Tedesco and the Tigers' defense retired all of the Bears' batters to move into the bottom half of the second inning.  
 
The Bears sent a runner across the plate to score their first run of the ball game in the third inning. With two runners on base and two outs, Uze made the final out of the inning and robbed the Bears of a three-run homerun. Jorge Gonzalez reached base via walk. Noah Amenta singled to left center and advanced Gonzalez into scoring position on third base. A ground out by White sent Gonzalez across the plate and advanced Amenta to second base. Amenta was left on base to move into the fourth inning.  
 
Tedesco picked up his sixth strikeout of the ball game to go into the bottom half of the fourth inning. Cameron Castaneda tripled down the right field line and ran home on a triple to center field from Grant McQueary.
 
Tedesco struck out all three Bears' batters to move into the bottom half of the fifth inning. Jorge Gonzalez doubled to center field and went to third on a ground out from Amenta. With a sacrifice fly from White, Gonzalez went across the plate and gave the Tigers a four-run lead. 
 
Joshua Lambert came in to relieve Tedesco on the mound in the sixth inning. With two outs, the Bears scored their second run on a triple to center field. In the bottom half of the inning, Uze singled to shortstop and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jorge Gonzalez tripled to right field and scored Uze.
 
Lambert and the Tigers' defense put away all three Bears in three up, three down fashion. White singled to left field to start the bottom half of the seventh inning. Arteaga reached first on an infield error and pushed White to second base. Alex Castaneda entered to pinch run for Arteaga. Clark laid down a bunt and reached first base on an infield error.  On the overthrow, White and Alex Castaneda scored and Clark advanced to third base. McQueary made it to first base on a fielder's choice. Kale Seitz doubled down the right field line and sent McQueary to third.
 
A four-pitch walk sent Jorge Gonzalez to first base in the eighth inning. Gonzalez stole second base. Amenta singled down the right field line and scored Gonzalez. Logan Verble came in to pinch run for Amenta but was left on base. In the ninth inning, the Bears singled to center field to put a runner on base but it wasn't enough for them. The Tigers defeated the Bears in a 9-2 victory. 
 
The Tigers had 14 total hits with five different players having two each. The Tigers had two different pitchers with a combined total of 141 thrown pitches and a .667 strike percentage. 
 
Game two: Campbellsville 12, Shawnee State 7 
 
Kacey Cheek and the Tigers put away the first three Bears' batters in a three up, three down inning. Uze doubled to right field to lead off for the Tigers. Jorge Gonzalez singled to center field and advanced Uze to third base. Amenta singled through the right side to score Uze and advance Gonzalez to second. Gonzalez and Amenta each moved up a base on a wild pitch. With two runners in scoring position, White reached base via walk to load the bases. With a sacrifice fly from Arteaga, Gonzalez scored.  
 
It was another one, two, three inning for the Tigers to go into the bottom half of the second inning but they were unable to capitalize on their offensive opportunity. During the third inning, the Bears scored their first run of the ball game. Clark was given free bases after being hit by a pitch. Cameron Castaneda singled to right field and advanced Clark to second. McQueary singled to center field and sent Clark across the plate.
 
Cheek and the Tigers' defense retired all three Bears' batters in order to move into the bottom half of the fourth inning. Uze singled to center field but was caught in a double play to end the inning. With the bases loaded, the Bears singled to left field and added another run to their side of the scoreboard. Zion Payne came in to relieve Cheek on the mound. In the bottom of the fifth inning, White reached base on an infield error. Cameron Castaneda singled through the right side and advanced White to second. Unfortunately, both were left stranded.  
 
Payne struck out all three outs to go into the bottom of the sixth inning. Kale Seitz laid down a bunt to reach first base and Verble came in to pinch for Seitz. Uze also laid down a bunt to go to first base and send Verble to second. Jorge Gonzalez singled through the left side and advanced Verble and Uze into scoring position. Verble scored on a wild pitch and Uze and Gonzalez each moved up a base. Amenta was given free bases after being walked and Mason Lee came in to pinch run for him. With a sacrifice fly from White, Uze scored. Arteaga acquired a base via walk and advance Gonzalez and Lee into scoring position at second and third. Alex Castaneda entered to pinch run for Arteaga. A sacrifice fly from Clark sent Gonzalez across the plate and advanced Lee to third. The Tigers took a four-run lead over the Bears to go into the seventh inning.  

With one runner on base, the Bears sent a pitch over left field fence for a two-run homerun. The Bears scored another run with back-to-back home runs. At that point, the Tigers only led by on and Zack Bromstead came in to relieve Payne on the mound. Bromstead struck out the final two outs to move into the bottom half of the seventh inning. It was there that Kale Seitz reached base via walk. Uze singled to left field and advanced Seitz to second base. Jorge Gonzalez doubled to left center to score Seitz and push Uze to third. Amenta found himself on first after being intentionally walked. With the bases loaded, White was walked to score Uze and send Gonzalez and Amenta up a base. Arteaga singled to left field to bring in Gonzalez and advance Amenta and White into scoring position. Alex Castaneda came in to pinch run for Arteaga and Cameron Castaneda reached first base on an infield error to send Amenta and White across the plate, which brought Alex Castaneda to third base. The Tigers then took a six-run lead to go into the eighth inning.  

The Bears added another run to their side of the scoreboard after a solo home run and then Chad McCann came to the mound for the Tigers. The Bears would score another run before the final out was made. In the bottom half of the eighth inning, White singled to center field and scored Kale Seitz. When it came to finishing the game in the top of the ninth, Campbellsville took care of business swiftly. The Tigers defeated the Bears in a 12-7 victory.  
 
The Tigers had 17 total hits with five belonging to Uze. The Tigers had five different pitchers with a combined total of 194 thrown pitches.  
 
The Tigers advance to the final site Mid-South Conference Tournament and play on Thursday, May 5th. The opponent is unknown at this time.
