LOUISVILLE, KY – The Tigers fought through high winds, snow, hail, and high levels of competition over the weekend at the Jim Vargo Invitational.
Coach
Mark Miller's team is continuing the success through the season, and a big thanks of it comes from the jumps unit. The Tigers placed five jumpers in the top 15 in the long jump and five in the top seven in the triple jump.
Greg Carr led the way in the long jump placing 4
th at 6.43m.
Barrye Trotter was close behind in 5
th with his mark of 6.42m,
David Young was 7
th in the event at 6.36m,
Corey Smith came in 14
th with a jump of 5.91m, and
Chance Lucas was 15
th at 5.83m.
In the triple jump,
CamRon Hamby earned his ticket to the NAIA National Championship with a B mark jump of 14.35m. Young came in second at 13.51m,
Jackson Harrell had a bounce back weekend in the jumps with his 4
th place finish of 13.25m, Smith was 5
th overall at 13.19m, and Trotter rounded out the group in 7
th at 12.85m.
Hamby and Trotter were also in the high jump competition Saturday. Trotter placed 3
rd with a height of 1.80m while Hamby was 5
th at 1.75m.
Harrell led
Jaron Hamby,
Brevon Whitney, and
Elijah Moore in the 4x100m relay earning the silver medal position on the day with a time of 42.74. Moore made noise in the open 400m Saturday with his time of 50.79.
Darionta Bell who is normally in the 100-200 range was able to pull a top 15 finish in the 400m with his 14
thplace time of 52.67.
Maikyah Stowe narrowly missed a top 10 finish in the 100m placing 11
th overall with a time of 11.38.
On the distance side of the track,
Sam Kiser had a solid outing on the weekend. Kiser ran 1:56.56 in the invitational 800m run Friday evening earning runner-up in the event. On Saturday Kiser ran 4:04.21 in the open 1500m placing 6
th.
Aiden Tucker joined Kiser in the 800m invitational Friday evening finishing less than one second behind at 1:57.28 placing 8
th.
Lukas Smithson improved upon his steeplechase debut last weekend. Smithson placed 8
th overall in the event running a time of 10:04.46.
Jarrett Crawford pulled a top 15 finish with his time of 10:45.49 placing 14
th in the event.
Cainan Daniels was down in Williamsburg, KY over the weekend participating in the decathlon. Daniels placed 8
th overall with 2409 points through the grueling 10 events.
Brayden Thomas qualified for the NAIA National Championships on Saturday with a B standard in the 5,000m racewalk. Thomas was able to cross the line in 25:29.27.
Campbellsville will have Easter weekend off before heading to the University of Kentucky Invitational April 22-23.
