ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The 1-1 #23 Campbellsville Lady Tigers travelled up north to take on the Concordia University Cardinals Saturday afternoon. The Lady Tigers offense was electric winning the match 7-2 with a complete defensive shutout in the second half.
In the first half of action, the Lady Tigers started out hot. Scoring began with
Lina Berrah getting her first goal of the season in the fifth minute on an assist from
Agatha Nimene. Just a short time after,
Angeline Kieh was able to take advantage of a poor pass by Concordia creating a quick turnover to lead to a one-on-one match up with the goalkeeper. Kieh broke the goalie down taking the Lady Tigers up 2-0 in just the fifth minute.
The action would then slow down a bit with Campbellsville and Concordia sharing shots on goal. This quiet time ended though when Berrah sliced through the defense and put a well-placed ball to
Olja Ivanovic who found the back of the net in the 20
th minute. Shortly after Berrah and Ivanovic connected, Kieh was able to get her second goal of the game by using some fancy footwork to get around a couple of defenders. The Lady Tigers gave up their shut out as Megan Starkey of Concordia was able to get the ball quick off the kickoff and sneak one past
Doeschka Birnage to put the Lady Cardinals on the board.
The Tigers answered this score with another one of their own as
Jessie Bryson got the ball on the right side of the pitch and maneuvered for an opening before ultimately taking a shot at the left corner of the net. Rounding out the conclusion of both team's first half points was Concordia's Starkey who netted her second goal of the day in the 31
st minute. At the end of the first half, the Tigers combined for 18 shots and led the game 5-2.
The second half was a lot slower for both sides than the first. The Lady Tigers came out more methodical seeking to dominate and control the clock as much as the game itself. They did just both though as Berrah sunk a shot into the back of the net from an assist by Ivanovic in the 57
th minute. Subsequently, the game became faster paced as the Lady Tigers' offense decided where the ball went and playing airtight defense. The 68
th minute rolled around and Kieh sprinted down field dribbling the ball gracefully around pressure until she was one-on-one with Haley Jacobson (the goalkeeper for the Lady Cardinals). This led to Keih's third goal of the day giving her a hat trick in resounding performance by Kieh and Berrah combining for five goals on the day.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action on September 14
th as they take on Talladega College at Campbellsville University. The game will start at 5:30pm ET and will be available to be streamed through campbellsvilletigers.com.
